Why do people buy macs?

If I had money, I'd buy a 20-inch iMac to use as a multimedia TV/web surfing computer... probably put it in the kitchen or something, use it while I'm cooking. Better than getting the Samsung internet fridge, and more functionality too!Epinephrine's History of Trench Wars:

Macs are for people to stupid to know there left mouse button from there right mouse button :P
The reason there are no virii for macs - is why bother to go to the effort of writing a virus/spyware/worm for a computer no body uses....
Maybe my hate of mac's come from having had to use them at university (eMacs) last term. They kept crashing/locking up and were sooo slow. I longed for my old spyware ridden windows machine!!! even with all the spyware crap on it - it still runs faster and you could load excel without it crashing!!!
dont get me wrong im not great lover of windows but i think people overstate the security of linux. A Linux Server that is not kept up to date can be comprimesed just as easily as a windows server that is not up to date.
One thing alot of linux admins SHOULD be doing is locking down /tmp as non-executable :P but you've be surprised how many don't.
Linux is much safer on the desktop - ie webbrowsing etc, but on the server side i think it becomes more equal with windows.Last edited by Doc Flabby; 01-11-2006, 08:56 AM.Rediscover online gaming. Get Subspace

I don't think it's safe to compare public used PC's because it's mostly up to the user how well it performs.
As kid I grew up with Windows from version 3.0, it's hard to switch. You ate some priest porridge

It sounds like the University eMacs are fucked up, not Macs in general.

The term PC is coined by Windows users, not by Mac users. Our computers are often called Macs, and yours are PCs. They are just using terminology that is common in discussion. Don't tell me when I say PC you don't think of Windows.Originally posted by Jeenyusssometimes i thrust my hips so my flaccid dick slaps my stomach, then my taint, then my stomach, then my taint. i like the sound.

You see this picture? What you see is "heh, old computer".
What people that remember see is an 8088 IBM PC XT, that came out in 1983. The original IBM PC came out in 1981. That's right, it was named the "PC". IBM was always stodgy back then with its naming convention. IBM PC, PC XT, PC Jr, PC AT, etc. Were you even born yet? So the IBM was the "PC" and the Apple was the "Apple" or "Apple II" or IIe, or IIgs, etc. etc. 1984 rolled around and we got "Macintosh".
Specifically the 128k Macintosh, the same year that IBM released the PC AT, a 286.
So, 21 years later, "PC" is slang derived from the IBM PC, progenitor of your fucking x86 architecture, while "Mac" is slang derived from that first 128k Macintosh released 3 years after IBM snapped up the name "PC" for use on a product.
How's that for terminology and naming convention? Come back to this party, after you can shave and hold a conversation, please.Last edited by Sarien; 01-11-2006, 08:50 PM."Sexy" Steve Mijalis-Gilster, IVX

PC i think a computer in general.
But hell what do I know Im just a Comp Science major.
if you search other places you get things like
(Personal Computer) refers to a computer platform (language) used by the Windows, Unix and Linux Operating systems.
Short for IBM Personal Computer. Used to indicate an IBM or compatible. sometimes used more generally to indicate any personal computer.
personal computer, usually referring to a Windows-compatible computer.
usually refers to a system compatible with IBM PC hardware and software
a term used to describe a class of personal computers based on Intel's 486 microprocessor. While the 486 can support a Web browser and many older applications, it is usually limited in its ability to run current software. 486 PCs and below generally represent an earlier generation of computing.
go to google and type define:PC if you don't believe me
and it doesn't matter that you're a compsci major. i know several compsci grads that refer to PC and mean "ibm compatible"
tomato, tomato (not quite the same typing it out huh) ^_^
