My mom used to drive 4 hours a day to go to and get back from work.. and in the Netherlands there is nothing but stop and go traffic during the peaks (morning, afternoon/evening). If you go to school somewhere far off, it's your choice to not go live any closer, us students get a pass to travel on the train and bus and metro, etc.. for free during the week or weekend, wichever you chose.

If I would have a car, wich I don't because that also is way more exspensive then there in America, I would drive 2 hours a day to and back from school. And we have litres.. 4 gallons is roughly 1 litre if I am correct (could be wrong haven't looked it up) and our car drives about 9 litres over 100 km, with a 70 litre tank, you do the math. But to fill the tank up, it costs about 100 euro, and I know my mom fills her tank every 4/5 days.

In the end it's your choice to live where you live and to travel the way you travel.

                **Canadian Dollars**

                I spend roughly:

                $500/month on dining out/beer/movies/junk food/other expenses
                $20/month internet
                $50/month wireless phone
                $400/month rent
                $250/month daily food

and $14,500/year on tuition, with $2000 on books/school expenses

Good thing I have a massive line of credit that the bank expands whenever I ask. Too bad prime rate has went up 0.5% in 1 month! AHH

Too bad I enjoy watching pictures of myself, thanks

You even took the time to translate to norwegian!
Feel free to post more of me, shame that I only got 1 pic up

Don't get angry cause you posted a picture of yourself. And about the pics you use to post, only a few of them are funny.

Don't go off topic with the stupid pics anymore strawberrypicker.

This thread was actually interesting. Epi is crazy at using money.

You have the gallons to litres calculation switched around. 4.55 litres = 1 gallon, but we'll just knock it down to 4 litres.

                          4 litres = 1 gallon
                          70 litres = 17.5 Gallon tank
                          100km = 62 mph and some change
                          9 litres = 2.25 gallons
                          100 euro = 118 US dollars

A- I'm not talking about what your mother did, I'm talking about now, the gas prices as of now, and the traffic situation as of now. At the very least, you realize that some people are worse off than others when it comes to commuting, let's just hope you realize that your country is not the worst off.

B- We don't get free passes to ride the metro, at all. It's not always the children's choice to not live on campus or go to a closer school, money is usually the deciding factor in that. Not only is it expensive to live on campus (which isn't really even on campus, those kids still have to ride the metro, but that's beside the point), it's also ridiculosly expensive to live anywhere from Arlington to DC, to Fairfax County. There might be a few cheap spots (very few), but those are cheap for a reason, if you get my drift.

C- Who drives over 100km (62 mph) in stop and go traffic?

D- How close is the nearest grocery store from your house? Nearest mall, nearest shopping center? Better question, how many people do you know, have a car? How many cars per household?

Lets do some fun facts. According to google, more specifically this link-

                          http://www.cia.gov/cia/publications/.../2119rank.html

You have a little over 16 million people in the netherlands. USA has about 17 times as much, but it's not really a fair comparison given the sizes of the two countries, right? Well let's take a gander at the place I call home, Fairfax County, located in Virginia. 395 square miles is the length of it, where the Netherlands is about 26 thousand miles, give or take (correct me if I'm wrong). 16 million people = 26 thousand miles, not so bad right? Well for 395 miles, Fairfax County houses a little over 1 million people. 1 million.

                          http://www.co.fairfax.va.us/demogrph/gendemo.htm

DC? 68 miles, almost 580,000 people.

                          http://www.50states.com/dc.htm (at the bottom)

What's the point of telling you this? Traffic, I'm giving you an idea of traffic. Not only the volume of traffic, but just a breif glance at how many cars are over here, how many cars are in such a small amount of land. Let's say only half of fairfax county have cars (which is bullshit, believe me)- that's an instant 500,000 cars over here, spanning less than 400 miles. You want stop-and go traffic? Try an hour and a half to go maybe (maybe) 2 miles. It's not just during peak hours either, I'm talking from 4-9am, and from 1-7 pm, there is going to be traffic. Not all the time and not every day, but enough to put a wrinkle in anyone's plans and a strain on alot of people's nerves.

Add onto that the fact that you have to drive anywhere to get anywhere in any amount of good time, is another hassle. The places I can walk to? A library, and a gas station, although the gas station is a bout a 3-4 minute walk. I'm not going to try and defend the idiots who have expeditions that get 12 miles to the gallon, and I'm not trying to rule out the fact that gas prices and traffic in general suck for everyone, everywhere- I just don't think any country has it worse off than anyone else. Anyone saying they have it the worst is just jawing off at the mouth, you have your share of problems regarding transportation in your country, and we have ours.

In the end it's not so much your choice where and how to live, but how you're going to cope with what you have.

My father in law was telling me over Thanksgiving about this amazing bartender at some bar he frequented who could shake a martini and fill it to the rim with no leftovers and he thought it was the coolest thing he'd ever seen. I then proceeded to his home bar and made four martinis in one shaker with unfamiliar glassware and a non standard shaker and did the same thing. From that moment forward I knew he had no compunction about my cock ever being in his daughter's mouth.

I was saying that when you have driven 100 km, not km/h, but distance you use up 9 litres in OUR car.. I wasn't talking about driving 100km/h in stop and go..

And we have an avg of 2 cars per household, or 1.8 something like that, it's high.

And the last test I heard, sept/oct, we WERE the most expsensive country in the world when it comes to gas. I have been to Canada last Summer, it was fucking cheap there compared to the Netherlands, and USA was even cheaper then.

Peak hours are usually 5/6 to 10 am, and 3/4 to 7/8 pm

It doesn't matter what you heard, nor how expensive your gas is. Price is not always the worst factor.
