            lol wrong religions!

buddhist symbol : Wheel of the 8 "ways"
            shinto symbol : Torii

You're talking about Jaïnism which is composed of 2 symbols.... which I forget the hand's meaning

the actual svastika symbol comes from the year 1000, when there was a group of christian knights who had it as a symbol... I forget what their name was... the nazis used this symbol afterwards. The jainist always had the symbol, but the meaning is completely different.

(sry, I just finished religion exams lol)

I do at high school, and it's actually a really interesting class.

A lot of social and political issues get debated in that class.

I took it too. I'm just talking about how I hoped HE didn't take a class like that.
My Humanities class was probably the best class I took in the past 3 years.

Buddhism dates back further than 500 B.C. (http://www.khandro.net/Bud_origins.htm), while Hinduism originated as far back as 1000 B.C. (http://www.bbc.co.uk/religion/religions/hinduism/).

Its true that Jainism's estimated origins began as far back as 3000 B.C. (http://www.umich.edu/~umjains/overview.html), but most religions at that time were all verbal, with no such thing as these symbols that we use today in these religions. Also the swastika symbol in all these religions represent the karmic cycles of birth, death, and reincarnation. So somewhere along the annals of the time, this symbol was established not by a single religion, but by society as a whole, which each respective religion has adapted towards their own specific teachings.

So to say that the "swastika" symbol belonged and began with Jainism, that isn't exactly correct.

It's illegal to PREACH religion in school, not to teach about it. We had to read the Bible, the Qoran, and the Torah/Pentatuch (Different from the OT, surprisingly). It was really good. I got to write a paper and cite DOGMA. How many papers can you quote Kevin Smith on?

Religion is an obligatory course, so yah....

as for the svastika thingy, I couldn't care less about it's origins, because any kid could just draw that and say "look mommy, I invented a new symbol" ^-^
