The Bloc will hold the balance of power, based on how the numbers look right now. That will create an interesting situation, as any time a party aligns itself with the Bloc on an issue, the others accuse them of cozying up with the Separatists, a stigma the Conservatives want to avoid if they feel they are at risk of another quick election.
Looking at the data, the Liberals lost almost exactly one million votes from the 2004 election. The Bloc might hold more influence in the House this time around, but they actually lost votes and seats. That gives the BQ more power, but at the same time dampens any hopes of a renewed surge of separatism. The NDP gained just 200,000 votes, but that translated to 10 more seats, something Jack Layton and our own little Spider should be pleased to see.
