    Hey,

" Palladium will also make it much harder for you to run unlicensed software. Pirate software can be detected and deleted remotely"

The links below go into graphic detail, but its well worth reading as it is probably something that effects everyone here in some way or another. I havn't read all of it, you get the general idea of it, by reading the first few paragraphs in the firts link.

I bet 60%+ of the trenchwars population have "non-legit" software on their computer (including MP3's) so this may be of some intrest to you.

Basically Microsoft Palladium, allows Microsoft to keep track of what software you have on your PC, and REMOTLEY DELETE it if they feel it is "illegal" -- Its allot more complex than this, but something that scares me.

Microsoft have invested 9 figure sums into developing this, in partnership with Intel, so dont expect it to just be specualtion, or rumour. This will eventually happen!!!

Here's a stupid amount of stuff to read. Well worth it though. If Microsoft can get away with it they get to control pretty much anything to do with computers. And if you've got a spare 5 minutes it makes intresting reading

Yay, maybe more game companies will be able to afford developing quality products if we all have to actually pay money for them. And maybe this will finally stop the distribution of child porn. Maybe all of the disturbing pictures I've seen that are burned in my memory will be banished to a few places where only those who want to see them will know to look. Maybe this will even lead to a new age of international litigation when Microsoft deletes England's intelligence database (whoops!).

EDIT: As for MP3s, it's my understanding that it's legal to have any mp3 as long as you own the original CD, so it will be impossible for microsoft to determine who owns the actual CDs
    I'd rather be SubSpacing.

Music and medicine, I'm living in a place where they overlap.

Palladium is an old concept, one that will never materialize since the people who want to do anything with it, can and will be able to. You know why? Because client software is impossible to regulate. All you have to do is edit, and change it. Then the super uber-elite protection (prison?) Palladium will place on people will be folly. And then of course the supreme court will also go up even FURTHER up Gates' ass and I'm sure they'll dig up even dirtier secrets. So in essence, Palladium is a meglomaniac's dream and as we all know meglomaniacs never succeed otherwise we'd all be worshiping Hitler.. or Jesus (oops?) or something of that sort.
The individual, a prisoner. Humanity holding the key to the opression. Everyone a prisoner, holding a portion of the whole truth. And so the enigma perpetuates. Insentient, lifeless. Grinning mockingly at its creators through its cold, inanimate lips.
