Personally, i would suggest going from
-west coast (vegas, L.A.) to north east usa (finger lakes) and
      -into canada, then
-going south from canada towords east coard (nyc, etc)
      -into miami.
-And while your in the neighbourhood.. going to cuba (with castro still in command) is a must see.

This way you avoid extending your tourist visa.
that trip could easely fill your 4 months.

and perhaps going more south than usa. the more south you go, the cheaper it gets, therefor the longer you will last as a euro-boy. (caribbean, venuzuela, peru, equador, brasil). But that's a trip on it's on i guess.

How can you agree with this? Los Angeles and Santa Monica? They are neighboring communities It would be obvious to hit both. I would compare it to someone saying you have to go to NYC and also Manhattan. Just bustin on ya "D".

On another note...if it is summer when you come to the States...hit the shoreline communities if your interested in meeting people and not just tourist traps.

              Newport, RI
              Asbury Park, NJ
Atlantic City, NJ (good gambling/night life)
              Wildwood, NJ
              Ocean City, MD

These are some good beach town resort areas. Sometimes overun by French Canadians in speedo's...no offense guys...but the marble bag bathing suits have been out of style since 1976.

Boston, New York City, Philadelphia, Wilmington, Baltimore, Washington D.C. are all connected by rail (Amtrak) You can get a rail pass for these and then use the pub transportation of buses, subways, trains.

Hostels in Philly are around $19 a night. No bugs...just bring a sleeping bag and your own pillow. Urban Backpackers

here's a list of the Hostels in N. America:

the last thing i would want to do is go to all major cities. that isn't a very accurate measure of "what america is all about". pick a couple of interesting places in the midwest to go to in addition to the two coasts.

I agree 100%...but if ya try and save a little money and avoid a Car rental, then you may as well get a rail pass & hit the east coast in that manner.

I think you are correct about middle america....Having been to many a Mid-American city I enjoyed Austin as well as enjoyed my time in Des Moine & if you are driving, you may as well go through and hit Topeka if your on your way to Denver. You will need a car however in these areas.

West Coast ...same deal...I would drive up the Pacific Coast Highway and then go into Canada and take the Train back across Canada from Vancouver to Montreal.

                    BTW here's a link for B&B's in Canada: http://www.bbcanada.com

Never been cow tipping. Cedar Point is a must see if you like roller coasters. I'm with PJ, visit smaller cities in the Midwest. There's still stuff to do, but it's different than say LA or NYC. Nicer people.

i would say football is for sure more of the national sport these days but its a lot more expensive to see a football game so if you dont know anything about the sport its probably not worth the money. if you want to see a baseball game and know your itinerary a little better id check back on the forums and ask which would be a good one to get tickets to, if you just go to any old baseball game the stadium might be empty and the game might be dull, but a rivalry game in a fun stadium would be a good experience.

Come to CT and see where the Hamburger was invented.
                              (Louie's Lunch, New Haven CT.)
And then I'll show you where to get the best pizza in the world.
                              (Pepe's Apizza, New Haven CT)
Then I can show you where to get a 3 lb.+ burrito.
                              (Mexicani Grille, New Haven CT)

See a trend? Go to NH.

You should come up to Canada for a few weeks at least dude! Check out Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto, all relatively close and in the same area - plus close to the U.S. border. If you hit ottawa we'd have to throw a mad bush party, or goto a show or something for sure.

And massive amounts of drug & alcohol intake would ensue my friend
