as some of you know Ive always wanted to do a Jack Kerouac kind of trip through USA with some friends but it has never been off due to various reasons. Now however me and a couple of friends are finally seriously considering going to usa and staying there for 2-6 months just cruising and exploring and having a good time. In the past the obvious choice of transportation for euros going to america on trips like this has always been to buy a car on the east side and travel over to the west side where you sell or dump it and then fly home. My cousins have done that for example..
This isnt so obvious to us tho cos only two of us have drivers license which might be both risky and boring. I hear that nowadays flying is really cheap within the usa borders but is this true and if so, how much does it cost? and what about train? How much does it really cost to buy a decent car?
Im not really a fan of flying cos we will miss the true feeling of being "on the road" but if its both cheaper and safer its something we must seriously consider..
there is also another question Id like to ask you guys. USA is so big and present all the time that I cant really figure out what we should do or where we should go so Id like some help with that part! Of course we are not gonna follow some scheduled route but it would be good to have some major goals, specially since usa is so big O_o
Where would you recommend us to go? are there some places that really serves the purpose of this trip better than others, are there some stuff we just *have* to see, some cities we just *have* to visit etc.. Is it worth the time and effort to go all the way up to Canada for example? what do you think? Id really appreciate your help
The main point of the trip is obviously not to see monuments and stuff like that (altho some might be fun) but more about meeting people and see what the americans are like and hopefully improve the rather negative standard european image we have about america and americans these days. We wanna have fun but also learn stuff about the culture and average daylife, improve ourselves as human beings and bla bla bla.. you know the deal
