  • US court backs hallucinogenic tea

Interesting that the courts would do this, yet deny cancer patients with maybe a year to weeks left to live the rite to smoke marijuana!!!

Yeah...I guess that if you have cancer and are in pain from the treatments and disease, that you should have to deal with the pain and sickness, so that you cannot have a few decent hours a day to be with your loved ones!!!!

Welcome to the court systems of the United States of Hypocrates!

As long as you tag god to it, I guess it is ok...but to have a sickness or disease...who F'n cares.

small US congregation can use hallucinogenic tea as part of its rituals to connect with God, the Supreme Court has ruled.
The unanimous decision is court's first religious freedom case since Chief Justice John Roberts was appointed.

The hoasca tea is considered sacred to members of the group, O Centro Espirita Beneficente Uniao do Vegetal.

In its ruling, the court said the government must allow the use of the tea under religious freedom laws.

Mr Roberts wrote that federal drug agents should have been barred from confiscating the tea.

However, the justices sent the case back to a federal appeals court, which could consider more evidence

LOL...to connect with God! lol....um ok....So as long as people can find a connection with connecting to god through drugs, that's ok? But to be in pain and dying from a terminal disease ....well that must be your own fault for getting it!
May your shit come to life and kiss you on the face.

I have a question. Is this tea currently banned on a federal level?

EDIT: Yes, it is, and it's schedule 1. Wow.

      Anyway, this is strange, then.

The point of this thread is to show how ridiculous this ruling is as they seem to find that treating someone with a terminal illness is not as important. Why keep it illegal here in the states to prohibit terminally ill cancer patients a chance to curb this sickness by smoking medical marijuana? And now on the flip side it seems to be ok as long as it is for religious purposes.

I hope everyone of these F'ers on the Supreme courty come down with terminal cancer and will have to be forced to endure the pains that come with treatment. Bunch of backhanded, on the take, appointed for life jerks!
May your shit come to life and kiss you on the face.

That was so DEA of you 404.

I saw a guy on tv last year, he has a disease, I think he is manicly despressed or something, but in one of those depression he can start thinking he is someone else, or the drugs he takes for the depressions caused it, not sure. But one time he really thought he was god for about 5 months. He wrote some books about it, and that 1 book about god and stuff had the must awesome title ever: "god is in de war, hij denkt dat hij pieter is" translated: God is confused, he thinks he is pieter (pieter is the name of the guy).

i think you're off base with the dea comparison, gall. 404 certainly has a valid gripe, and i'm sure his comment was only a means for him to vent his frustration over the whole issue. he wasn't just being a thoughtless dickweed like dea, spitting out angry malcontent for the sake of being a thoughtless dickweed.

i wholeheartedly agree with you, 404. it's so early in roberts' career, and yet he's already sticking his nose where i hoped he never would. this ruling sets a very dangerous precedent, and i shudder to think what else might be in store for us.

I don't think LSD is con-troll-able ; ) Must be this hour, what.. wait.. oh the clock is 3:00+. Did you know that at night you can't really solve any problems, since then you have your "problems" storage open and "solution" storage shut. Thats what I have heard, idk. At least I don't seem to get any problems solved at night, I just get deppressed.. and start talking about myself in the tw forums, like anybody would care, w00t, yes you may quote that and say something very smart, which in the end isn't even smart, quite pointless in fact. ... tribes vengeance.. maybe, yeah, then at 4:00am maybe go to sleep, I wonder if I can midair disc someone..

errr... wait.. so you hate the supreme court for a ruling upholding what they're supposed to and then something that isn't their fault?

Congress is in control of commerce inside the union, and since they are the people that make laws, then they're the ones that have made the laws that screw over terminal patients and people that want to have a responsible good time.

The Judicial branch however, when they see in a case before them that the powers granted to congress are completely impeding upon a freedom granted explicitly by the federal constituation, they make a ruling respecting the personal freedom of the individual?

What, exactly, is the dangerous precedent, and what, exactly is your problem here, fellas?

                      Your anger is misdirected.

It's not all anger...it's more frustration in regards to the issue of religion taking a front seat to the health of a terminally ill individual.

Is it upholding? People in NYC that are Haitian and practice their religion of Voodoo, have been put in jail for the slaughter of animals & this is part of their religion. There are too many hypocritical laws in regards to these type issues. Perhaps I myself am being hypocritical as well, but I could really care less about religion when the life of an individual is on hand. Perhaps we just need to stop creating these medicines that prolong our lives so that we can only be left in a bed writhing in pain hoping that someone will give you a morphine drip overdose! Ahh...now we open a new question....should we legalize euthanasia to bypass all of this?

I have no interest in having the law changed in regards to recreational drug use. Although it would probably solve our deficit problems, when you consider the cash crop from a genetically modified hemp plant could be used for fuels, clothing, industrial materials..... and yet genetically modified so that you cannot get high off of it!

I however, have been exposed to individuals that have gone through treatment for cancer using radiation therapy. Until you have someone close to you, and you may? that have had the problems that are a direct result of this treatment, I find it totally ridiculous that the means of how the decisions of the courts & congress in the states are so hypocritical.

We spend monies on medicine for treatment and cures to extend the mortality of individuals up to the point of where they are in such high pain thresholds due to these treatments, that they are banned by law for aiding in the comfort levels of these patients, just so that they may live their last dying days with some dignity with their families.

I do not see a 15 year old or for that matter, an 80 year old with a terminal situation, sitting around getting stoned so they can laugh at VH1's "I love the 80's!"

In today's times when we look at congress for the decisions as to which laws are passed only to see it being bypassed by our Presidential Cabinet in secret, one wonders who has any control? and are we turning into an Evangelical Religious based country for all our future laws and morals...perhaps even a Fascist state?

To question authority is not a bad thing!
May your shit come to life and kiss you on the face.

Hell, I don't mind authority being questioned, I'm just saying that it should just be directed at the correct authority.

I agree, it is hypocritical. But being a hypocrite isn't against the law. The judicial branch can only interpret so far and I think they did the right thing in this case. You should be asking your congressional representative these questions, because they're the ones it is gonna take to change things.
