Originally an anime (oh you shun at the word, but please read on) from 1988, about surviving Japanese families from the Kobe village during the second world war. They recently remade this into live action (real actors) and the product is absolutely amazing. If anything, it should spark a great interest in the kind of lives that people led back in the day during war, without any of the glamour. Its out on DVD, and is definitely worth a look in terms of Japanese movies.

I've watched it just recently, and its 2 thumbs up, 4.5/5 . The acting is superb. A definite heart-gripping, tear-jerker of a movie.

I don't think they have an export version of it with subtitles and all at the moment. You could go with fansubs, but the quality of the translations is always still up in the air. However generally I don't seem to have a problem with fansubbed works.

It's sad, but I'm not sure that you'll cry.

Saikano however, is a sad anime, you're gonna cry when you watch it.

It was a made for TV movie actually.

And Kim only saw it cause Inoue Mao is in it (although that's as good a reason as any to watch it!).
