I was watching Animal Planet last night, This show was on and it was counting down the Worlds quickest killers. You would thing that a snake or spider would be the deadliest, but no, its the Box Jellyfish.

A Box Jellyfish can kill you in 45 seconds. Its stingers shoot out faster then a bullet from a gun and penetrate deep into your body, within 45 seconds, if the sting was severe enough, you will suffer a massive heart attack.

Apparently these things are very common and are actually seasonal in Australia.

Yeah, Australian beaches Brisbane downwards (on the east coast) are quite safe. Every beach is patrolled and have flags where you swin between. There is also a sign detailing weather/water conditions, tides, what sealife you're swiming with etc. There are also nets 100 metres out which prevent for the most part Sharks. Usually further up the Eastern coast, where it's hotter, where there tends to be more jellyfish.

I saw one mad crazy jellyfish on the discovery channel that was like the size of a fingernail and only had 4 tentacles. These two divers were looking for them, and got like brushed by some on their gloves. They ended up hospitalized in agonizing pain seemingly unhindered by a morphine drip for 2 weeks.

i seen a dead jellyfish washed up on a beach once. It was quite translucent with a pinkish tinge. I poked it with a stick. no joke. I poked it good.

omg lol this reminds me about the time i rang up my parents to tell them that a fish in our pond had died and it wasn't cuase i had forgot to feed it. And they were like " are you sure it is dead" and i said well i poked it with a stick and it didn't move just floated in the direction i poked it so i'm pretty sure its dead.

then about 6 hours later when i went to feed the other fish it was swimming about!
