  • A dash of cuban

After my nan died alittle while ago, i had to do all this work on my genealogy, really interesting stuff, found out i have irish, russian and french blood in me. As well as stories such as my great great grandad was on the run from the army because he killed a man who kicked a dog.

Whos blood you got in you? where do you come from orginally? does this sorta thing interest you?

My brother has done a good amount of genealogy work on my family--not surprisingly, my family is almost entirely German/English. A funny side note is that I found out two summers ago that I might just be (however distantly) related to another Subspace veteran (yeah, that's right, VET), RogerMexico.
Music and medicine, I'm living in a place where they overlap.

National Geographic is running this project call The Genographic Project. For 100$ they send you a testing kit (to get a DNA sample you mail back to them) and other info. Basicly this doesn't tell you who or where your Great grandparents lived by it does tell you others things. The site also has a lot of information on human migration.

Edit: I haven't tracked my family tree back too far. I know on my Dad's side it's all Irish/Scotish. My Mom's side is British. My Mom's side has lived in Canada for a very long time, my Dad moved to Canada when he was 13-14 from Scotland.

I'm mostly (75%) Irish, and about 25% German, maybe 1% of "other", lol. Umm... apparently, as the story goes, my Great, Great, Great Grandfather was apparently running from some British Authorities for some reason, I'm not too sure. That's why my family ended up in America, and they changed their last name to avoid it.

I'm of Spanish Irish decent. Turns out a relative of mine was on the Spanish Armada, settled in Ireland because the ship he was on got wrecked, and bred, then the family most likely came over to Liverpool as they do, so that explains how I live in Merseyside. So yeah thats how I exist

My mum used to be into geneology until she traced back as far as she could, and then gave up.

My maternal uncle is seriously into this and has been for most of his life. On his side I'm like 75% Scottish, 25% French, and 10% African. On my dad's side I'm mostly Scottish/British and a little French as well plus my dad was like 12% Native American. So I guess I'm something like 75% Scottish/British, 15% French, 5% African, and 5+% Native American.

Sidenote, my uncle ran into trouble figuring out where some lines in the family came from or ended or whatever. He thought for a long time that he was part Native American but he got this like $300 genetic test that can differentiate by percent your background into 4 categories: Asian, Eastern European, Sub-Saharan African, and Native American. Even though we're all from Africa there are genetic markers in these regions that stay through like thousands of years or something like that. Other than those markers though, there is no genetic difference between different races.

I'm such a mutt... I really have a little of almost everything. I think predominantly I'm German and Norwegian, though. I have some Native American in me, but as my mom says, not enough to get money from the casinos haha

My maternal grandfather was pure German. My paternal grandmother was pure French (shut up, Cent). That alone makes for a strange combination, but there are bits of Irish and Native American (Cherokee, I believe) in there as well. Guess you can call me a mutt too.

I've asked my parents before, and supposably my origins are Czechoslovakia (now the Czech republic) and Romania. Though, those may be the two main ones, I would also have french, english and others such as african. I've often been asked if I am asian, aboriginal, mexican or even portuguese. Since I've got too many origins, I just say that I'm canadian.

I'm also a mutt. My materal grandma was 100% German, and my last name is German, so I guess I can assume I'm mostly German. I'm also part Scottish, from my paternal grandpa. But my dad's side of the family is crazy, so we don't know any of our history from that side of the family.

My great grandpa, when he came over from Germany, apparently he was your stereotypical German - big and angry a lot. Once, after a long day of working on the railroads in Nebraska, he went to a bar to play some poker. Well he wasn't too sure about the guy he was playing with, he just struck him as odd. He dropped a card on accident, bent down to picked it up, looked under the table and saw "cloven hooves." He claimed later that he was playing cards with the devil.

The next day he was working on the railroad that was going over a river. All of the sudden a train was coming and he didn't have anywhere to go - get hit or jump into the river and die. So he threw his wrench at the train, hoping to stop it, and then proceeded to get run over and day. That night the village had a celebration that he was gone. :stuart:
