  • Gospel of Judas

I was thinking and wondering what the religious people of TW think of the Gospel of Judas?

This would/ could change the way we see christianity.

I saw the documentry, haven't read the National Geographic though. Basicly the documentry told there was a gospel found, dating from around 100 ~ 300 AD (cant remember correctly). According to this gospel, amazing the biggest traitor in time has a gospel written about him, Judas was told by god/ jezus to betray jezus.

It was written by the agnostics, basically a bunch of people labelled as heretics.

lol, as edify has pretty much indicated, it will be ignored by most of the churches.

i dont know why this thing is such big news. granted i haven't looked into it at all, but really, there are many gospel books out there that aren't included in the bible proper. First there's the apocrypha, which are labelled as good books but not God's holy word. Then there's something called "the apocryphal gospels" (i think i have that right) these ones can get crazy, if i recal correctly, there was one that said when Jesus came out of his tomb he was like 20 feet tall and a bunch of angels came with him.

Anyway, considering that the books that are in the bible are routinely picked apart and analysed, i doubt this new thing is anywhere near credible enough to make a difference. If anything, it'll just get added to the list of weird books abaout Jesus.

If you think about it, there is some truth to it. If Jesus would never have been betrayed by Judas, he would never have been crusified. He would never have died for our sins, he would never have awoken from his death.

So from that point of view you could state that Judas was a pivotal point in the christian believe and if he hadn't done what he did, the christian believe wouldn't be were it is now. So it's not that weird to see judas as an important figure within christianity without the negative traitor stamp on him.
Maybe God was the first suicide bomber and the Big Bang was his moment of Glory.

For once I agree with Galleleo.

I'm not claiming that the Gospel of Judas is true or anything (I haven't heard anything about it actually) but Judas was the impetus in our salvation. In order for us to be able to become close to God and to be forgiven, we need Jesus to die for us. For example, in the temples there was a curtain that no one could get through except for the high priests. After Jesus died, the curtain was torn, allowing the people to finally become close to God.

Did God tell Judas to betray him? Who knows. The Pharisees were already planning to kill him, and they could have done it without Judas' help anyway.

Shocker - the Bible's books were probably not all written by their name sakes either.

Yeah so, gospel of judas. It's a load of bullcrap, as it states in one part that when Jesus was a child out of anger he accidently killed another kid and Mary told him to raise him [from the dead]. Interesting, as Judas didn't know Jesus until he started on his 3yr preaching.

                          galleleo's post bugs me.

i mean, really, just because a guy played an important role in the easter story, does that make him good? If it wasnt for satan, we wouldn't need saving, and therefore Jesus wouldn't have died for our sins. Same argument could be made for a lot of people mentioned in those verses.

i guess there are people out there that would go for that point of view though. Doesn't mean i have to like it.

i have a question about this book. From the newspaper headlines i've read (that's about all i've read) it looks like this book says that Jesus tells Judas to betray him. How is this different from the account in John13:26-27?
"Jesus answered, 'It is the one to whom I will give this piece of bread when I have dipped it in the dish.' Then, dipping the piece of bread, he gave it to Judas Iscariot, son of Simon. As soon as Judas took the bread, Satan entered into him. 'What you are about to do, do quickly,' Jesus told him."

misinterpretations is what some people would say to that.

The think the biggest contradiction is where someone dies but then three days later he's alive and no one finds it suspicious. If that was me I'd be asking questions
