What struck me as odd, was that the Natl. Guard would only be sent there for 2 weeks?

If it is such a big deal to this country, it would make sense for the Mexican Govt. to become more involved in this. But why would Fox and his Govt. do anything when so many of these so called illegals get paid in greenbacks and bring them back to Mexico where they spend and invest in themselves. No tax monies are returned to the US and the Mexican Govt. makes out on all sides.

Mexico will not police their side and it is interesting that Mexico also does not allow U.S. citizens from doing any more than vacationing in Mexico. You really have to know someone to buy property in Mexico as well as work there. Double standard....gringo's not welcome, yet please let our people into the States and give us as much of your U.S. dollars as you can.

Perhaps Mexico should make their country into a more aggressive and competitive market so that more jobs and money would stay as well as the people, in making them into a competitive market economy country. Crime, Tequila and pinata's will not make Mexico into a global market economy.

Actually, what's really interesting is that while Vincente Fox publically speaks out against the deportation of ILLEGAL immigrants in the US, it is Mexican policy to regularily deport ILLEGAL immigrants into Mexico (mostly from Central American countries going to Mexico to see better economic opportunities). It's a huge hypocritical double standard.

You are correct on the 2 weeks part. I just enjoy a jab at GWB. The actual transcript was more along these lines:

Bush told the nation Monday he would dispatch 6,000 National Guard troops to the 2,000-mile border as part of a new plan to tighten security and placate those who want a crackdown on the millions of poor who seek work each year in the world's richest nation.

California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, a fellow Republican and one of America's most famous immigrants, walked a careful line by endorsing more border security, but said it is a federal, rather than a state, responsibility.

"I am concerned asking National Guard troops to guard our nation's border is a Band-Aid solution and not the permanent solution we need," Schwarzenegger said in a statement.

Addressing fears of militarization of the border, Bush said troops will be there for one year and will not engage in law enforcement, but rather assist the 12,000-member U.S. Border Patrol with administration and surveillance.

I blame the Mexican authorities for not doing enough to provide work for its own people at home. It just makes no sense that the States are the bad guys in all of this.
