  • Bagdhad ER

Tonight, HBO premiered a documentary called Bagdhad ER. I was wondering if anyone else caught it, and what you thought.

For those who don't know anything about the documentary, here's the brief from the HBO website:

    Baghdad ER

12-time Emmy® Award winner producer/director Jon Alpert and Matthew O'Neill capture the humanity, hardships and heroism of the US Military and medical personnel of the 86th Combat Support Hospital, the Army's premier medical facility in Iraq. Sometimes graphic in its depiction of combat-related wounds, BAGHDAD ER offers an unflinching and honest account of the realities of war. Premieres Sunday, May 21 at 8pm ET/PT, with a special encore presentation on Memorial Day.
Here's a link to the website, if you want to read more.

I didn't catch Baghdad ER but I did catch a Documentary whose name I don't exactly remember. I think the name was something like "21 Days behind the lines" or something similar to that but it was a very unbiased(RARE) and in-depth look at the situation there and the sentiment of a wide spectrum of the Iraqi people.

I am fairly certain it was on Showtime and I strongly recommend everyone check out '21 Days'.

What was your assessment of Baghdad ER? So that I may decide if I should watch it or not.

I thought it was pretty unbiased because they didn't talk about politics at all. The focus was entirely on the soldiers, the medicine and the daily life in the ER.

As far as what I thought, well...after seeing a solider get his arm sawed off and literally thrown into the trash because it had been so badly injured by an IED attack, I couldn't help by become enraged at the Bush admin for not having put forth their due dilligence. These guys deserve better. But mostly, the docu made me feel incredibly grateful for the sacrifices our soldiers have made for us civies. I mean, these guys are incredibly tough---mentally and physically. It pretty much just blew me away.
