Excuse me but I'm not one to put up with knee jerk reactions to a comment I made, we can do so much better here. I explained myself and ask that he calm down and inquire before over reacting. 'The church' overall does not describe the specific denominations, communities or individual churches throughout the world. It refers to the global, social and organized goals of this organization and the effect it is having.
Sorry if it shits on your lawn if you are Catholic but I am free to express my opinion, no religion is free from criticism.

You're criticizing his knee jerk reaction to your own knee jerk comment. "We can do better", and you could have done better than that initial glib statement. You got exactly the kind of reaction you wanted with that statement, so don't act like the aggrieved party here. I understand the argument you are trying to make, but your initial statement did not make that argument but instead offered a general blanket statement.

You're right, you DIDN'T say that rigor's branch or community "or even the ideals of the Catholic church are not focused on helping people", but at the same time, you also didn't say that "the overall administrative body, the higher ups and a lot of the funding to the third world, the main goal there is not to help people". You said "the church" which could just as easily include both interpretations, and in all rights should include both. Don't blame him for overreacting to a statement that you knew was not clearly worded.

Wow thank you for budding in and making this a fuck load more complicated. I didn't want people to get the impression that I don't see good actions from the religous right nor did I want any reaction at all from these people. Is it wrong to ask him to calm down and discuss it rather then telling me to fuck off? If all this forum is for is telling people to fuck off when they make an attempt to spark a discussion then I'm finished with it. Sure I could have been more clear in my initial statment, it was writen quickly but it was not a knee jerk reaction nor an attempt to insight hatred. It was a small misunderstanding, I wasn't clear and I corrected it. I will continue to profess civility TK, no matter who appears to be the "attacker" here.

Now back off TK, I don't need you analyzing everything I say. This isn't grade school, this isn't an essay and you're not a teacher here. If I need to clearify something I'll do it and I'll continue to ask that people, esspically on these kind of topics, show some restraint and side with reason.

I'm sorry, would you prefer that I stop being calm and start throwing F-bombs at you, after all, until the hypocrisy of your last post hits you. I fail to understand how you find it okay for yourself to criticize the Church yet don't like it when someone criticizes your argument in the clear manner that you yourself admit you failed to do. I'm showing restraint and reason, isn't that what you're asking for? You put a statement out, and that leaves it free for people like me to analyze it. Don't like it? No religion is free from criticism, but apparently, you seem to think you are. Don't preach to me about this forum being open to discussion and then tell me to back off when I'm doing just that.

No Kolar, I want this to have open discussion like you wanted to. Please, don't tell me you want to stop because you suddenly think this is too personal for me. It's not. I'm not even Catholic.

Then why are you going at me?

Because I disagree with your statement and I feel that people are making similar blanket statements filled with stereotypes and faulty assumptions, yet hypocritically point out the same faults in religion. There hasn't been a healthy discourse on religion on this forum mainly because of statements like the one that you made which, because you didn't make it clear, makes for a very one-sided discussion. There's nothing personal between you and I.

Religion has become an easy target, too easy a target actually, and blanket statements like the one you made, which you wouldn't have clarified until rigor got riled about it, hurt discussion rather than promote it. I just want us to get out of that one-sidedness and into an actual discussion.

Isn't this what you want? Or do you only want discussion if it agrees with you or it's easy for you to counter?

no one sent me money yet
My father in law was telling me over Thanksgiving about this amazing bartender at some bar he frequented who could shake a martini and fill it to the rim with no leftovers and he thought it was the coolest thing he'd ever seen. I then proceeded to his home bar and made four martinis in one shaker with unfamiliar glassware and a non standard shaker and did the same thing. From that moment forward I knew he had no compunction about my cock ever being in his daughter's mouth.

I never meant to make any blanket statements. I don't feel it is wrong to say that many in this religion should put more emphasis on humanitarian aid, building bridges between faiths/religions/beliefs by being less extreme in practice and being open to other ideologies and life styles including secularism. I fear religion has become a reason just to kill and or segregate someone in our time so there's a lot people could be doing that I feel is truer to their belief system that would solve a lot of problems. My statement was inappropriate and I hope I clarified it. I'm sorry if it caused any disruptions to this discussion. I really forgot about this thread, I'm in the middle of mid terms so I can't keep track of everything right now.

I'll take it in any form but hatred or flamming.

Even in an organization that claims that it's perfect, the people are not perfect. Priests do commit crimes and again so do football players. Criminals just kind of exist everywhere. Temptations can be strong when one has a lot of money rolling by him. I'm really glad that Rigor took the time to actually prove everyone false that the Catholic church is one big hypocrite. There are also many, many devout members of evey religion.

Despite a shakey history, I respect the Catholic church as a whole, even though I'm not a believer.
I do not see the comparrison of Religious Leaders and Football players. Criminals are everywhere this is true, but when was the last time a Football player had to take an oath to their duty?

Perhaps if it was compared to the President or a Police Officer I could see this point.

Temptations are strong, yet in this case and many others revolving around not just religion in general, pose serious ethic violations of why these indivduals have chosen such a career and lifestyle.
May your shit come to life and kiss you on the face.
