Now don't get me wrong, I don't regret trying to switch to Linux. But let's just say, I'm extremely grateful I have another PC to use while I'm sorting out a difficult transition.
So I installed the new Fedora Core 5 distro to my other PC, but then I decided that I wanted to have a dual boot setup. So I decided to reinstall XP with FC5.
Everytime I would throw the XP cd in, I would select the option to "boot from cd" during the BIOS check. Usually with XP, the cd will do it's thing and check your hardware, and start the installation process before you're asked how you want to format and partition your HDD.
However, since I have previously installed FC5, when XP checks my hardware configuration, the system hangs indefinitely. This basically means, I'm unable to reinstall XP onto other PC.
Now, I've tried to be a good little newb. I've been doing proper research at the various fedora/linux forums, but you know how it is----most people have jobs and a social life, and tech support is availiable ONLY at the convenience of another person's schedule. So, for the last 3 days, I've been trying various solutions from a short list of people, and nobody seems to really know the exact cause yet.
Anyway, I just thought it would be interesting since you don't often hear people mention how much they actually appreciate a M$ product. But after the last few days, I just want to kiss my regular system for being so stable, and so hasslefree. It almost makes me want to overlook the ridiculous price, privacy concerns, constant security patch updates, and the firewall/anti-virus/spyware/adware programs that are required to use XP. But hey, at least when I use XP, I know it will actually work as expected without requiring me to relentlessly study about kernels, root authority, and partition tables.
