I'm fairly certain no one in this forum or America would regard smokes suggestions as thoughtful in any sense of the word, regardless of how little credit you might choose to give them.

You're thinking is the exact cause to what breeds terrorism in the world. Just because Al-Qaeda originates from Islamic countries, doesn't make the entire population of those countries terrorists. Every country has or has had these problems, here are some examples: Canada (FQL, but I disagree), Cambodia (Khmer Rouge), Japan, Egypt, United-States (Al-Qaeda), Iraq (US), and the list can go on.

Forcing someone else to change is difficult and practically impossible if they aren't willing (psychology). How would you react if Saudi Arabia decided one day that George Bush was an ass hole, and the whole country should suffer their occupation for as long as no one rebels (they'd also be the ones monitoring your government), and if you kept rebelling they'd imput their Islamic laws into your constitution? Pretty illogical, but that's vaguely how it is seen. Work with them, and they'll work with you. Force them, and they'll ignore you.

BTW, Guantanamo Bay should be abolished.

I always have agreed that because an organization is based in a country or group of countries that the whole area is not a part of it. For example, scientology is an organization in the United States but does that mean we all follow it and agree with their views? Of course not. If the church of scientology were to stage a war against people and start attacking foreign nations would we protect them and give them a nice place to stay and plot future attacks? No. They have no power here because they are a joke to us. These terrorist groups in the middle east countries are not a joke to anyone and are aided and abetted by the countries' governments and in many cases the civilians (who may or may not have any choice in the situation). Fact is, they arent helping us stop the attacks and bring the perpetrators to justice, so why should we just allow this? Basically shooting ourselves in the foot if you ask me.

Of course forcing a change in their society would be difficult, but I dont think it is impossible atm. Our society is far, far more advanced in pretty much every way possible from theirs, and someone obviously needs to change something so that the 2 of us can get along and coexist. Why would we be adopting their culture and sending ourselves back 100 years or so in areas like womens rights. These people act pretty much like animals right now as far as we're concerned..i think smokes already pointed this out. For them to understand that we arent bad awful people who are out to get them, they have to be brought up in an environment where we arent portrayed in a bad way every moment of their lives. I personally cannot blame them for hating us so bad, because they only are allowed to see the bad things that we as a country do, but I'm not about to be content to just pull out of the area entirely and allow things to escalate with more and more terrorist attacks. No one has yet to bring up a point how their culture can ever conceivably change with these terrorists running shit in their country.

And for the record, they would most certainly be imposing their standards upon us if they had any real power over our country. What do you think the eventual goal of the attacks are? To keep us in our part of the world? We would gladly be staying here if not for them taking down the WTC and attacking israel every time we turn around

How do you want their civilians to help you? On one side, Al-Qaeda is telling them to come fight in the name of Allah (note: religious war is accepted in Islam), on the other side, they are limited to their resources by the US and many civilians have said they were better off with Sadam Hussein in power.

Furthermore, you can't exactly blame their governments for sucking ass, since it was our fault that all the middle east countries became divided, and since then nothing good has happened.

Once again, you have to add a judgemental opinion. I agree we should both work together to find a solution for coexisting in the same world. I also agree on some humanitarian rights, but as seen on the news (CBC), it is nearly impossible to make laws that aren't backed up by the majority of the people (mostly conservative in islamic countries). It could take years, if not centuries before everyone thinks about the same issues we do. Assimilation just doesn't work you know.
And the thing about us being more advanced might be true, but us being better is an opinion and not an argument. Some people like the simple life, some like sci-fi worlds. So be it.

You just went back to refering Al-Qaeda as an entire country. FYI, some islamic countries have become more liberal without the influence of other civilisations. Therefore, they wouldn't necessarily impose their values.

And as far as I see, there isn't a reason why you can't stay home. Instability crap in Iraq? That was your fault, there wasn't anything even close to a nuclear bomb found in Iraq.

I never referred to us as better than anyone. I simply said the fact that our society is more advanced. It is not my fault for this. You are attempting to take the responsibility away from the people who make up a society for how that society acts. Blaming the US government for splitting them up does not justify how they treat other human beings and never will. They have all accepted these standards and think that it is perfectly normal to go by. Therefore every member of that society is to blame. Just like every member of American society is to blame for America being overweight. Even if we know all the fast food here is wrong to live off of, not enough people are doing anything about it to stop the problem. You can make plenty of jokes about this correct?
