watch it be 5k for a 3-year tour. Not worth it IMO, but hey if you need the cash and don't mind going to Leba....Iraq, go for it.
My father in law was telling me over Thanksgiving about this amazing bartender at some bar he frequented who could shake a martini and fill it to the rim with no leftovers and he thought it was the coolest thing he'd ever seen. I then proceeded to his home bar and made four martinis in one shaker with unfamiliar glassware and a non standard shaker and did the same thing. From that moment forward I knew he had no compunction about my cock ever being in his daughter's mouth.

                Yes, they should.

You sign up for the military, and you agree to a contract to render your service for a set amount of time. When your hitch is up, you go home. As far as I know, they didn't even pull that kind of crap in Vietnam, when they had a draft going on. It don't matter a damn, if he's needed or not. If he's done his commitment, the boy should get to go home if he wants. Period.

If they wanted to sweet talking him into re-upping for another tour or something, that's different. But flat out saying, fuck you, no, you don't get to go home? That's wrong.

Hm, so you're saying that you've been engaged to this guy for a while then right, considering most people are able to like come home after serving a certain amount of time, in which there is a minimum. So he must of been out there for like a year, meaning you've been engaged for since you were at least younger than 15? Are you sure you've made the right choice and found your like "true love?" You've only had so much time to figure it out... i personally don't think you've made the BEST decision, you're 17 and crying over your fiance whos in Iraq, and how old must your fiance be if hes in the army for a while?

lol read the fine print on those contracts bud. The military pretty much owns you when you sign up. Also I believe an involuntary extension would be say you sign up for 4 years, and 2 of them are supposed to be in Iraq. Boot camp + tech training take up a year, then the next two you go over there. The next year of your job you're supposed to be in a base back home instead of in the fire, but since they need you they involuntarily extend your deployment. You're still under contract with the military though, and if you actually read the contract they're allowed to do that. I'm sure the guy isnt whining too much though. He's got an important job to do and I'm sure hes earning the respect of everyone back home, or at least damn well should be. Since I'm quite sure most people here no nothing about the military, I just felt obligated to point that one out

I'm pretty sure its a moot point though. This has lie written all over it but maybe its still someone she knows/cares about

I know a little about the military.

The restrictions bar voluntary separations and retirements for soldiers in designated units beginning 90 days before deployment until 90 days after their units return to their home stations.

In addition, the stop-movement policy essentially suspends the normal rotation of soldiers into and out of affected units.

The Army's Reserve Component Unit Stop Loss policy took effect in November 2002. It applies to Reserve and National Guard soldiers deployed in support of the war on terror, from the time their unit is alerted until 90 days after demobilization.
Know what that means? It means that even when their tour and contractual obligations are up, they cannot voluntarily seperate from their unit, or retire from service until 3 months AFTER that unit as whole is returned to their home stations. That means they can keep units in country without losing people that have fulfilled obligations, that means they can set units at non home bases, or send them home, and within three months send them right back out again. That's completely in addition to the stuff you talked about, and that's why it's called a "Backdoor Draft". Because it's just this side of the line of military conscription.

I had a friend who was an Arabic linguist during the first OIF. He served his Five year contract and was even let out. But the catch in all contracts is that there is actually an eight year obligation. Since he served five years of that eight, he will spend only three years in what they call Individual Ready Reserve. Usually during this time in the IRR, you may be required to meet at a meps and check in. You get paid $100 bucks or so for showing up, then you can go on your way. Long story short - the need for arabic linguists was high, so he was called back in from home (yes he was a civilian again) and sent to OIF because he was still in the IRR. He had a certain amount of time that he was allowed to be out there, and they honored it and sent him home when that time was up.

IRR from my understanding is used only in extreme conditions such as a stop loss for arabic linguists. Also it is a buffer for all those who arent interested in joining the military, but are in the Selective service. IRR goes in before them mitigating hopefully a need for a draft. I could actually look it up since I am still in the IRR and give facts about it...but im too lazy

What I quoted was in addition to the Individual Ready Reserve. The IRR is the kind of thing that Izor was talking about. The stop-loss program however widens the scope, and prevents anyone in a deployed unit from leaving even when their time is up, until they are allowed to by their command structure.

You sign up to serve your country and to do what is needed of you. It is a voluntary decision, so why would anyone whine about it. If they cared that much they could say they turned gay and get discharged or something. My point is that even though people are whining about this they knew that once they signed the military is using them as they need it, not as they want to. And yes linguists are in high demand, so I can understand why your friend got called back in AR.
