Simcity 4

I just picked it up (technically, I picked it up yesterday, but when I opened it, there were no CDs inside. I had to go back today to get it exchanged. Damn heavy packing cardboard.) and it looks great. I've only played it for a bit, so the following comments are just from my initial impressions. I've always been a fan of the Simcity series ever since I first let a hurricane topple over my coal plant over a decade ago.

The integration with the Sims was a natural evolution to the series (it even has the Sims' interface, which I never really liked, but it is fairly efficient). The amount of detail they added to this version is amazing, as each game in the series so far has been able to add new and interesting stuff that made you wonder why it was never put in the last one, and yet you don't think to ask that until you see the latest edition.

The best feature in my opinion is the regional design. No longer do you create a city independant of everything around you. While 3000 allowed you to "connect" to neighbouring cities, you now get to BE those neighbouring cities and form a network of communities. I'm not sure yet how the online play is going to work, and how it will involve this new regional set-up, but it should be interesting to see.

I played yesterday and it was great.. the graphics are cool. Like you said Troll, the region design a good idea. btw it's not a clone of sim city 2003 like Roller Coaster Tycoon 2 is with Roller Coaster Tycoon 1 (the same fucking thing).

I've been hooked on Simcity 4 for the past few days now. This game is so damn slow though, it crawls on my Athlon XP 1700 and ATI Radeon 9000... You need a super computer to play this right

The game is damn hard though. The maps are seemingly smaller than previous iterations of Simcity as I found when my city of 25,000 managed to take up the entire map leaving me to slowly expand through density. I haven't yet been able to get my city past 65,000 though. Of course the game being as buggy and stupid as it is actually leveled my entire city (taking me $54,000 into the red) when I was trying to raise some new land in the sea lol. I was clicked on the sea, next thing I know I hear this big crash and 1/2 my city is levelled (very populous-like I might say).

Just got Sim4 also... great game, lots of detail, even the map editor seems to have had a lot of effort put into.
