School shootings and gun violence in general happen more in the US because of social and economic disparity.

You have to understand that we don't have a Bill Oreilly, Ann Coulter, Glen Beck, a Keith Olbermann, a Jack Cafferty ect... While I would love it if Peter Mansbridge would each night take a swipe at Stephen Harper just like i'm sure right-leaning Canadians would like it if for example Leslie Roberts each night called Liberal and NDP voters idiots but.. it wouldn't be the right place or time to do so.

I don't think population has a direct effect on it, Canada takes in 250,000+ immigrants a year so our population growth is anything but stagnant.

I grieve for the tragedy and loss for the people that are suffering from this.

And Sarien, not that I disagree with you, but this is a public forum is it not? From what I remember, there aren't any rules expressly forbidding the participation of any specific person (as long as they're not banned), which basically means that anyone can respond to a given thread as they see fit; whether stupid to the point that they don't "know their ass from their elbows", provocative to the point of trolling, or otherwise- as long as there isn't pornography involved.

And to answer, these things don't get as much coverage in America, because hey... Americans don't really care about Canada. Meanwhile this has been front page news in every newspaper and TV news story in Canada.

And nor is it the first time something like this has happened either. It happened a few years ago in Alberta, and it happened in 1989 in Montreal which was a much more tragic event.

I know some people who went to Dawson, so I guess this hits closer to home because I've heard of this school before... so I wish those who were injured the best of luck in a speedy recovery...
