it's happened before so it's ok? yeah, that makes sense. genocide has happened before, why are people so upset about it now?

It's a different type of game online, but I don't see how that matters.

You can argue all day that it's no big deal, but that's just because you're not a player. if the govt decided that all computer games were illegal, or fishing, or whatever it is that you like to do in your spare time, you'd sing a different tune.

Hey, O'Reilly. I never mentioned genocide. I mentioned laws that were made, in the United States, concerning gambling. Yet, you're not up in arms about the legal age for gambling being 21. So why this? Because it personally inconveniences you. If it really pisses you off that much, petition the legislatures and the suits who made this law. Go outside and actively participate in democracy. Or would that be too much of an inconvenience?

He also wouldn't tell someone that said the gambling age should be lowered to shut up and wait until they were 21, either.

The US should just tax American users when they give poker sites access to their US bank accounts. I'm sure there is some way to do it.

If this topic doesn't affect (or inconvenience) you, why continue to shake your finger at every person in this thread that IS inconvenienced?

This whole "suck it up, shit like this has happened before blah blah blah" routine doesn't provide an objective debate. It just makes you look like a jackass. Provide an objective viewpoint other than over-generalized comments like "stop whining and go live next door to a casino" or "go participate in democracy!" and people might actually listen to what you have to say. It's clear you aren't a fan of online gambling. We get it.

But if your intent was to just troll aimlessly, then hey...big ups.

No, the main difference is the ability to multitable and play roughly 6 times more hands per hour (or more). To make that kind of money live, you often are forced to play at stakes that bad players don't play at, and put in unrealistic hours doing so. Also, you might not have the bankroll to effectively manage swings of the higher stakes. Live rake is usually higher, and it's proper to tip a dealer (though some assholes don't), and that really adds up.

Also, if you're doing this to support yourself the last thing you want to do is take money from your friends constantly.

Before, I had to funnel money through a third party online site like paypal or neteller because many US banks couldn't associate with online gambling sites because of laws. With funneling such as this, the money wouldn't be trackable. Not to mention, you want to take your taxes from the company, not the people.

Haha Paypal is very much traceable, they're not an online money-launderer. But why not tax people? The government taxes people on land, cigarettes, clothes, etc. They can't tax the company because it's not in the US so the government should just let it happen but tax the transactions. It wouldn't be hard.

Yes, my initial post about getting a job, and/or moving close to a casino were 'sort-of' jokes...But, how is suggesting to go out and try to change this ban not a valid suggestion? Are the people affected by this supposed to go to forums and just complain? Why not go complain to people who actually could help your cause, rather than some geeks on a website?

Playing online makes it easier for people who have no poker face what so ever. I hate playing with a few friends who own at reading people.

Very few people can just get cold tells or reads on people, and it's mostly just hype. There's much more reliable information in the player type and the betting pattern. The most good players can do is tell what type of player you are without you having played a hand, which is, however, quite a lot of information. I've had people lose a lot of money to me because they "thought they had a read on me." I've also made some amazing folds because I knew it was someone who played really tight and wouldn't be raising without a hand better than mine.
It's like the same way you can tell a guy is a douchebag without him ever saying a word.

Right, I get that. But if the law were appealed then there wouldn't be anything to gripe about and you'd be happy again. Correct?

I'm still not seeing how suggesting to try to get it turned over isn't valid...

You're saying "why complain, just get the law overturned" and that doesn't make any sense. He spent 30 seconds complaining here. That's not enough time to put a stamp on a letter and walk to the mailbox, nevermind write a letter to a senator, which would never be read anyway, and if it were read, would make no difference. If he wants to gamble online it's a much better use of his time to find a loophole, which was the overriding point of his post anyway.
