Yeah, this guy downstairs plays all the time, and actually makes about $300 a week (enough to sustain him thru college) and he's extremely pissed at this new development.

Though he showed me an article that said the WTO plans to appeal this decision.

          Shocking.

Anyway, it may seem crazy, but real jobs where you get a paycheck might help out with financial woes, as well. Alls I'm saying is that there are other venues where you can earn money. And if gambling is all you can do, but you don't live near a casino, perhaps you should pack up and move closer to one if it's really your be all-end all.

            You make me mad.

Sure, "go out and get a job" is fine advice, but what about casual players who just love the game? I understand that you CAN just go out and find a game at a real casino, depending on where you live, but why is it the government's place to tell me that I CANT play from my home? and if I like poker but don't live near a casino I should fucking move now because the government takes away my rights? that's bullshit.

So your advice is just to accept it and move on? What if they took away the whole internet from you? would you just accept it and move on? what if they took away your right to drive a car? I mean, this shit isn't going to happen, but come on... the reasoning behind the law is moronic but I guess as long as it doesn't affect you, who cares, right?

Pretty much a pain when anyone decides that their moral standards/opinions need to be applied to the whole country and pass these types of things. I'm not sure what we as citizens can do though.

Yeah! Stop complaining that you can no longer make a lot of money doing something that's fun! Don't you know that you can go to WORK instead? Who wouldn't want to do THAT??????

If it's that you want to play from your home, you could always get some buddies to come over on a certain night to have a game. If your real life friends don't play, then make a post on Craigslist or something for poker pals (I don't know, just an idea). My point isn't that you should just accept it and move on, but rather that you should learn to adapt to it and figure out a new way to get your fix for Five Card Stud. The initial post, however, did make it seem as if they played for income, as if PartyPoker was their only source of real income.

The government has been mandating where you can gamble and who can do it for years...and you're just now getting pissed off about it? There are, and have been laws, in place centering around gambling for years, and this is just another one. Also, the government does take away certain peoples' right to drive cars on a daily basis. They've also taken away access to computers and internet before as well.

You can work somewhere and actually enjoy it, you just have to find the right job, or career, for you.

I don't think you understand the differences of live and online play.

No, this is pretty much bullshit. It had to be snuck in under a subsection of a must-pass bill with a non-amendable clause, or it never would've passed.

Actually, there are quite a few laws that get made that way. Things like this have happened before.

And...what is the difference between online playing and real life play? Easier to cheat? Easier to play if you have a terrible "poker face"?
