I just got one of those Motorola L7 SLVRs. You know the red charity ones, helping AIDS in Africa, it was only £90 on Tesco mobile, and has more features than some of the £150 phones. Its pretty fantastic. Read up on the positives on review sites- there's plenty of positives, but I will say 3 bad things about it:

    1. Doesn't come with much memory, only 6Mb but it can be expanded with the mini SD cards you can put in the side (they're really cheap to buy online)
    2. It didn't come with a PC cable, but you can download 'Motorola Phone Tools' from you-know-where and use any old data cable. (I'm giving my mate who also has one of these phones a cable and copying the software);
    3. Camera sucks unless there's plenty of light, as with most mobile cameras.

I finally succumb to the peer pressure but it was well worth it, it's been the best thing I have bought in a while, and I only know of one person who has one, unlike those damn RAZRs which everybody seems to have. Like you I'm not a big phone nut, but I did a lot of research and this by far was the best value, I was surprised at how feature rich it is for the price.

I'm not sure about your Orange SIM but I will say one thing; changing my number was a doddle. I was really worried about it being a total hassle, (because I liked my old number, and also because I have 104 friends) but really it was pretty painless, and I like my new number more than my old one. Of course it might not be the one for you, but I hope this helps.

Yeah, its always a gamble buying a phone- especially if you are looking to be completely original by buying a phone nobody else has, my mates have many horror stories about wasting their money on phones that pretty much suck and aren't worth the price, but I assure you this phone is great, and inexpensive- I love it.

          Glad I could help.

a week or so ago i got drunk , dropped my phone picked up the battery and back cover thinking that was all my phone and staggered off and fell in some random corner where a taxi man took pity on my and took me home, still charged me £15 mind you

so i needed a new phone as you can't do alot with a battery and a back cover

anyway i also know little about phones only that my last one cost £80 and i lost it in under a year.

i don't care much about features or fashion, wanted a decent phone that looks ok (i.e/ not tacky pink) and if i loose it again i won't be going nooooo all that money ahhhhhhh

              so i bought this one
              http://www.thelink.com/martprd/produ...ng/x660/708203

              it came on monday.

i'm happy enough with it, its got shitty ringtones and alarm. but i dl its software from the samsung website and i bought a usb cable that will hopefully hook it up to my computer and get better ringtones? dunno if you can change the alarm.

haven't got the cable yet, it has some infra-red hook up built in but my computer doesn't

lol at getting your fingers burnt with a contract, me and Nailed aren't the kind of people who need contract phones- we don't use them enough to make it worth paying for.

Good for you. Most of my mates are on contract, but since I don't use my phone for mindless banter, its not worth it for me.

If I need a txt or call allowance I will purchase a bundle: its like 50 txts for £5. Lasting 30 days

anyway most of my friends have gone to uni so i am down from 104 friends to about 5. ha

I know what you mean, it sucks this... everybody is back at home at different times and either I don't have the time to see them or they don't have the time to see me. Hoping for a Christmas get together with loads of mates but I can't see it happening.

There's only me and 7 others left here. With only two others in Liverpool- the rest are at Manchester, Cardiff, Leeds and Durham

p.s. apparentyly you can get one of those sliver phones from carphone warehouse for £60(when bought with £10 cred)?

look into LG phones. i had one of those flip-phones that was rather basic (txt messages, browsing, color screen, etc - just no caller id screen or camera, or mp3 ringtones) and it lasted me for 2 years with no replacement - and the only reason it was replaced was because i dropped it on water.

2 years for a cellphone...each of my friends went through 3 or 4 in that period

now i use an early motorola razr, which is also pretty neat, but now they have better, upgraded razrs with itunes, more memory, better camera, etc

if i had a choice i'd go for an LG
