Grab a piece of paper. Place a dot in the middle of it. Draw a small circle around the dot, and leave the rest open. The dot represents your knowledge. It's what you know. It is the limit of your mind's capacity. The circle around the dot is everything that you don't know - but you know that it exists. And the rest of the paper is everything that you didn't even know that you'd never know - that exists or has the potential to exist.

It's a true story. It was something liek 300 Greek Spartans stood up against a 1 million (or more, I forget, it's been long) Persian army that was trying to break through to Athens, where they were eventually beaten by the cunning of the Athens. I believe the 300 killed thousands and held off the Persian army long enough for the city and the rest of the country to prepare.

I want Sparta to make a cameo, how badass would it be to see Jim Ward take a sword and run it through like 20 persians

Man, the persians were fucking pussies. 300 spartans. 8 Macabees. You'd think they weren't trying or something.

Unfortunately this movie is based on a comic book... it's going to be all weird and stuff I can just feel it. It won't have any of the 'historicalness' of even Gladiator (which was 'fake-historical' at best) to lift it up. I can imagine seeing those Spartans in the movie doing Matrix-like kung-fu moves or something too...

This is too bad, because the battle of Thermopyle was one of the most important battles in the history of the Western world and as a movie it could be so much more.

the "true story" is that the persions had actually taken greece. all the folks in athens had taken off, and evacuated to the ocean. They managed to defeat the persians on the sea, however, and reclaim the city against all odds. very inspirational. also, it lead to the construction of the acropolis and what we now recognize as 'classic architecture.' it was indeed a very exciting time...

Isn't it ironic that you are taking AP classes, yet misuse the word ironic?

You are correct, but the official story (if we can believe Thucydides) also has it that the 300 Spartans sacrificed themselves and held the Persians at bay for 3 days, thereby giving time for the Athenians to rally and regroup and eventually defeat the Persians.

They bottleneck'd the Persians. That's how they beat them.
