From my experience with iPods and my friends' experience as well, the only advice I can give is not to get an mp3 player with a hard drive. Therefore, a Nano, or the like. My girlfriend just ordered a Zen Vision V, I'll let you know how that works out.

I just got a 30gb video ipod, and i love it, though the price really escalates with the warrantys and cases etc..

anyway, an iRiver is much cheaper than a Nano, and with a bigger memory. still seems a bit chunky; i'll be carrying it around in my pocket when i use it.

I'll second that. In a laptop or in a music player, HDs will fail eventually. A few years ago HDs had big advantages because of capacity but now with 8G/16G flash players out there, HD's are a big drawback, IMO. With 8G you won't be able to carry your entire library all the time but you will have days and days of music which should be more than enough.

This is probably true. I got the larger size because I was heading across the country for 3 monthes and wasn't going to have my computer or cds with me. That said, I like not ever having to swap out music.

i have a 4 gig muvo2 that i got about 3 years ago, 4 gig is plenty, i never get chance to hear all the music on it. my advice: get one with a boastful battery life, then just go for a fair priced one, dont pay above the odds.

I had only 2 demands: Small and Indestructible. First I had the mini, then when the nano got out I ditched the mini for that. Yeah it scratches but that's still not as bad as the mp3-players some of my friends have. They also have buttons going lame or parts breaking off of their players.

I've had a black video ipod for about 6 months now and I have only 2 minor complaints. It scratches easily (Have to get a cover for it, which makes it a lot less cool looking) and I don't like the file management system. I've heard there's software you can get to make it act more like a regular external drive, but I haven't really looked into it.

So I really like it, but I don't have enough exerience to know whether there's better ones out there or not. I buy whatever costco carries because they'll take shit back ANY time. Don't bother with extended warrantees, just buy at costco, cash back, no questions ever.

iRivers are dandy. I'm buying a new computer pretty soon and will probably get an iRiver to go with it. Anything but an iPod, really.

I was pretty anti-iPod until I got one as a gift, and honestly it does what I want it to without a lot of hassle.

girlfriend got her zen muvo v micro or whatever its called, she really likes it, says its the size of a tamagotchi. im gonna check it out friday. personally, i think the new iriver looks cooler though.
