it costs more to execute one death penalty case (with execution costs, appeal costs and death row incarceration) than it does for maximum security for a life sentence.

death penalty is racist and is not a deterrant.

maryland recently completed a study to determine whether or not the death penalty was racially biased. the study proved it to be so, but our newly elected governor decided to life the moratorium (i dont know if im using/spelling this word correctly) on it.

Ct has the death penalty... hasn't been used since the 60s or 50s i believe... and i'm glad. I would hate to restrict someone of their life, no matter what crime they performed

but remember... put yourself in the victim's loved one's shoes. Lets think in realistic terms here. Some people say they will do some thing but when the situation comes to play, they turn a different direction. How would you feel if your very close friend or family member (lets pick mother) would get rapped and brutally murdered? Even I would want to take revenge on whoever commited such an act.

Some people I know think that if a person can commit such an act, an inhumane act. That person isn't human at all, so they should be put to death.

Some relatives of victims fear that having that person locked up in jail for life with no paroll isn't enough dreading that such person will some how, some way get out (such as break out of prison, etc.)

Hmm something to think about. Just laying down more 'points' to argue upon. =))

In US, it depends where you are, relitively. New York hasn't sentenced anyone to death in years, while in Texas they go through people like tissues. Taking away someone's life, immoral? Yeah, well, whoever comes close to capital punishment probably took away a few people's lives. If you were related to someone that got murdered or friends with someone who was murdered or something, most likely you wouldn't be like "25 years will make him a good boy." Of course, in New York, if you're mentally disturbed (whether it be insanity, or just seeing your wife cheat on you and kill the man who did it), that itself can make your sentence 25-life rather than death.

Most people think either "it's wrong to kill someone, no matter what they did" or "they took someone's life away, now it's thier turn." I personally agree with the second one, because lives cannot be replaced, and when someone takes away lives away from people, the same should happen to them.

technically, life in prison= death penalty.
so those against death penalties are against life sentences also?


edit:forgot to anwser magis question: yes i am for the death penalty. i dont care about deterring, i feel that life in the prison resorts are not punishments. Especially for rapists and serial murderers.
