Are you going to buy a PS3?

I like the concept of the PS3 being a multi-media PC+high-end gaming console hybrid, but that's pretty close to what the Xbox is, and it's cheaper. I have always had the PlayStation brand consoles in the past, and I'm inclined to get it over anything else, but I'm just annoyed about the price.

It's crazy for a video game console to be 600 dollars, just because you can get a more versatile Computer for a little more, but it will be better in the long run because you don't need to worry about stupid shit like blu-ray or HDMI or 1080p/1080i.

Who gives a shit, get a Wii. Get a 360. PS3 looks like the fucking obelisk from 2001: A Space Odyssey

Well, it's definitely between the Xbox or the PS3 because I'm a GTA fanatic. Grand Theft Auto IV is coming out next fall, and is reported to have a simultaneous release on both platforms.

I'm probably going to wait until next summer to decide which I'm going to buy. By that time, there should be plenty more information released about just how incredible (or overrated) the PS3 is, and if there will be a price adjustment or not.

Hell no to PS3, main reason:ONLINE CAPABILITY.

ps2 showed me that sony could give 2 shits about online gaming, i mean yes they have it but the lag is terrible compared to xbox/xbox360. Plus i dont know why people are so suprised at the price of it,. years ago when the NEO-GEO came out it was a crazy $700 and that was a loooong time ago, so why not cough it up now for a console with 10x better graphics than neo had?

Previous Reason why I would have gotten a PS3 #1: Grand Theft Auto 4 (Which is really the 6th, go figure) being Sony Exclusive.

Now: Grand Theft Auto 4 is coming out on the Xbox 360, and they are including at least two new chapters for download that you can purchase on the marketplace that add "hours of additional gameplay", apparently.

Previous Reason why I would have gotten a PS3 #2: Metal Gear Solid 4 (Again, with the 4's) being a Sony Exclusive.

Now: We know they ported Metal Gear Solid 2 to the Xbox v.1, and that was all well and good. But, I don't think anyone would have expected Metal Gear Solid 4, which has touted in the trailer that "The Cell Processor is the key to winning this war", a very Pro-Sony remark, would be coming to the Xbox 360. Apparently, Konami is forcing Kojima's hand into the port onto the 360.

Now: Lol ... Sony actually paid off Ubisoft to stay hush-hush on the existance of a 360 version. So, unlike what you may think, this isn't a PS3 to 360 Port, but an original, Multi-platform title.

Previous Reason why I would have gotten a PS3 #4: Sony Online (A free rip-off of Xbox Live?!), centralized.

Now: Well, Sony's Ken Kutagari (whatever his crazy ass is) said that the Online would never be a "main focus", but people would have the game and "oh, there is an online feature", like an afterthought. Hell, for $599 I woulda gladly taken a shameless ripoff.

if you just want to play games for its entertainment value, i highly suggest getting the wii or the xbox360. if you want to just see how nextgen they can get with graphics, go for either the 360 or ps3. ive heard that 2nd gen 360 titles are looking better than 1st gen ps3 titles so you can say their technology is about on par with each other. its games that make a system really; you got the marios, zeldas, pikachus and whatever for nintendo, final fantasy and whatever for playstation, and halo and whatever for the 360

im planning on getting a wii when they release it with dvdplayback functionality and smash bros brawl

Sony decided to get the Ratchet and Clank boys to make a new IP in which it's a First Person shooter where Earth is on the brink of annihilation and it's up to Earth's soldiers to stop the alien threat. The catch is that it takes place in 1950 and WW2 never happened. So you'll be fighting with weird, modified weaponry that is half old-school, half new-school.

Now, take the Xbox 360 game-killer Gears of War. Microsoft decided to get the Unreal Tournament boys to make a new IP in which it's a Third Person shooter where an earth-like planet is on the brink of annihilation and it's up to the planet's soldiers to stop the alien threat. The catch is that it takes place in a similar future where the world is engulfed in a World War-style fight. Then, while the humans were preoccupied, the aliens struck and almost wiped out the race. The weapons are highlighted by an assault rifle with an attached chainsaw bayonet.

Now, back to what Necro said, the "2nd gen" 360 titles look much more polished and graphically detailed than the launch PS3 titles.

Resistance: Fall of Man (Playstation 3)

It's pretty obvious that Resistance is the game Sony put up to combat Gears of War. Since the game only just dropped within the past couple of hours, we've only had graphical comparisons to go by. You know, since PS3 prides itself on being the baddest motherfucker on the planet in graphics, it's only fair to judge based on their strong point.

The differences are obvious, too. In Gears, the detailing on the terrain, the models, the shading. Everything is just done so meticulously. I have people stopping in my house, or my friend's house just to watch it, cause it's so beautiful to watch. Resistance, on the other hand, looks very unpolished when sitting side by side. Sure, it looks much better over a PS2 game, but it's nowhere near the detail and aesthetic beauty of Gears. And, by the way, the PS3 games are on Blue Ray, so they have much more space ... you know, for DETAIL.

FUCK SONY another fucking console where they ignore the european market. we cant even buy the ps3 untill march next year. which means waiting another 2 years for the price drop.... I think my ps2 and getting a wii will fill the gap :wub:
