These thread has prompted me to give up my recent consumption of cigarrettes. and possibly other substances...

I think it'd be wiser to spend that money on food then cigarrettes. At least you have to option to eat healthy, as opposed to suppressing your hunger with cigarrettes.

I couldn't begin to imagine what you are going through. I just recently started smoking and I already don't see the point in me doing it, but every-so-often I see myself craving at least one during the day, and it pisses me off that I would be like that. Being a pretty-sheltered kid growing up, then suddenly getting all this independance when heading off to university has given me options I now regret.

I hope you can kick the habit, cause I don't think anything positive can be achieved if you continue on with it. When you do kick it, I'd like to know how you did it, cause I could also use some help in case I can't stop mine until it gets too far.

This thread makes me want to go smoke a cigarette. Boy do I love not having any addictions to substances. Porn, on the other hand...

to be totally honest this is what happened to me when I went to bootcamp, which is a total of 2 months without any nicotene at all, just pure cold turkey quitting, and what the outcome was

The day I was about to leave I was a the airport, and the military people took my cigs away, so naturally I led a group of smokers into a rebellion when they werent looking and went and bought more, and hid outside smoking it up knowing I wont be able to for a long long time.

Anyway I wanted one throughout bootcamp, shits so stressfull its all you want. But your so busy and active that you dont have time to think about it anyway, only when your going to sleep are you like "fuck I want a smoke"

In the end, when I got done what did I do after 2 months of not smoking? I bummed a smoke from a dude at the airport when I was leaving, coughed from the first few puffs, and then bought a pack. And I still smoke, not a pack a day like before but I still smoke. But since I have to run so much all the time for the whole military thing, my lungs arnt nearly as destroyed as they would be normally...so i duno, I dont get bothered by the health risks.

So in the end, 2 months gone and I still wanted one, maybe it was mental not physical by then but its the same thing. Then again I never willingly quit, I just stopped because I was forced to.

My point is this: you wont quit unless you really really want to, not because it costs too much or you have to stop for certain reasons, maybe pregnancy or something. You may stop for a while but youll eventually do it again. You have to quit for the sole reason that you WANT to quit, not for the other reasons but just because you dont want to smoke a ciggerrette anymore.

                It's mind over matter.
"As a man thinks, so is he"
You're thoughts are key to most situations. Thoughts are focused frequencies in the mind. Change the frequency & change the energy. The first thing to overcoming an addiction is to change your thoughts on the vice to the extent that you absolutely hate it. You abhor everything about it; the smell, the looks, the imposition on others, etc. Your will is too strong and proud to allow yourself to be a slave to any vices. Replace that energy spent on having a smoke with positive energy to enhance your wellbeing.

The spirit controls the mind & the mind controls the body.

For my case, I always do the best to quit smoking when I'm either sick or hungover. It buys you a free pass from the first day.

I'm really considering to cut the smoke as well, but it's goddamn impossible. 100% of me doesn't even want to stop smoking, just a large part. I hope to join your withdrawals soon.

Yeah thank God for not being physically addicted. I smoke an average of 3-4 cigarettes a day probably, but I sometimes go 2-3 days without smoking one, just because I don't really feel like it. I have a friend who is up to two packs a day (3 is extreme for someone your age, I don't think I know anyone who smokes that much under the age of 40) and he is having a really hard time quitting. I think the reason is that he doesn't want to, he's primarily doing it for his girlfriend. What pisses me off is he'll say "after today, don't give me another cigarette, ever." And then when he asks for one and I say no, he bitches at me. One time he said "don't give me any cigarettes" and I tried to get him to sign a piece of paper saying he wouldn't bitch at me if I refused him, and he wouldn't do it. I thought that was interesting, right then and there it was obvious to him that his resolve is fake.

Anyway, my point is, what's frustrating about my buddy is that he'd be better off if he would just cut back instead of "trying to quit" because the second he fails at "quitting" he is just back to smoking a couple packs a day again. So, if you don't REALLY have the resolve to quit cold turkey, at least try to consider any reduction in smoking a success, as opposed to considering any smoking at all a failure.

I quit for a week and a half until Sunday (not counting when I get drunk and smoke) and was pretty proud of myself. Of course I started again because I have stress problems and short of beating my girlfriend I think cigarettes are the least damaging way to vent.

if you need to beat your girlfriend to vent you have far worse problems than smoking... and trust me your stress isnt nearly as bad as a lot of people in the world so thats just a really stupid way to get anger out, assuming you werent just being sarcastic of course, but thats a bad joke not funny at all
