Yea, I agree with you a thousand-fucking-percent about comparing this move to the Mustang II (Aka, the Pinto with a spoiler). Considering how badly Ford has been getting pummeled, I would think they'd have more sense than to strap a vagina onto their flagship sports model.

"You have to appreciate that we treat the Mustang as one of our crown jewels," said Ford marketing spokesman Jim Cain, "and you don't wear them to every party."

Ford will unveil a concept car called "The Interceptor" at the Detroit Auto Show in January. That car will be based on the Mustang's rear-wheel-drive architecture but it will not be a Mustang, the company emphasized in its announcement.

Oh, ok. So they ARE going to make a 4-door Mustang station wagon---they're just going to call it something else.

Well, I guess that's far less stupid than ruining all the progress they made on restoring the Mustang's reputation as a muscle car.
