  • What is the deal with people?

Whenever I'm driving it really makes me wonder what's going through the head of the average person.

    - Why do people not realize that the right lane is for slow people? People drive UNDER the speed limit in the second lane from the left all the time in my area. They got on the road on the fucking right lane, what the hell drove them to move over into traffic that was going faster than them? I understand you're a woman, and are perhaps dealing with hormones or something, and I understand you might be new to this country, but, seriously, if you've been in the country for longer than THREE FUCKING SECONDS (the amount of time it takes to notice that the right lane is for slow cars) there's no excuse for being that stupid. This activity (at least in my area, because I always glare at people that do this and can't help but notice the demographics of the people committing this atrocity) is primarily committed by middle-aged women, particularly ones that do not appear to be of Caucasian or African-American decent. Any idea why this is? I don't think women or foreign people are stupider than the rest of us, but why can't they figure out the simplest fucking thing on earth?

    - Why do people not signal? I'm trying to make a right turn in heavy traffic, and finally, there's a break in traffic going to the left, and there's only one car going to the right, and they fucking slow down as if they are going to make a right turn, but not really that slow, and I'm 90% sure they are going to make a right turn, but they aren't signaling, so I don't go (the reason I don't go is coupled with the next thing I'm going to bitch about). Of course, they turn right, and then traffic picks up and I can't turn right for another fucking 3 minutes. What is going through their heads that they are too fucking lazy to signal (which is not hard to do), ESPECIALLY in a situation where they should be somewhat aware that not signaling is completely dicking over the guy trying to turn right.

    - Why do people think its courteous to act in a manner completely the opposite of the way you're actually supposed to drive. Part of the reason that right-turn situation drives me so nuts is because 10% of the time there's one car coming, and they slow down as if to make a right turn, what they are actually doing is trying to let me turn right in front of them. Of course, I am not going to do that, who knows what they are thinking, and when they will just arbitrarily speed up and rear-end me. Another instance of this is when you're in a shopping center, and there are stop signs for the people exiting the shopping center, so the people entering have the right of way. This is another thing that pretty much only middle-aged women do, although this seems to be a race-neutral activity: they stop when they have no stop sign, for no reason, holding up everyone behind them. Then, they try to waive you on. At this point, I have one of two options: 1) go, and then 50% of the time the people realize that they don't have a stop sign, and go at the same time, and then I get stuck in the middle of the intersection, and I've run a stop sign, or 2) waive them on, in which case, they always say "no, you" and waive me on AGAIN, so I finally go at the exact same moment that they've given up on waiting for me to go, so, again, I get stuck in the middle of the intersection and it looks like I've run a stop sign. I fucking hate these people.

My question is, do you think people that do these things are stupid, selfish, or what?

edit: Obviously, I would be better off if I could not be so bothered by this stuff, but seriously, I never do any of those things. If people are passing me on the right, I move over immediately. I always signal, and I never stop for no reason when there's no stop sign. It just doesn't seem that complicated to me, and as I'm running late for everything all the time, these people really inconvenience me.

edit2: Oh, AND: When there's two lanes, one that is for going straight and turning left, and the other is for going straight and turning right. Right on red is allowed, and someone is the first car to pull up to the red light. WHY DO PEOPLE SIT IN THE RIGHT LANE? I always think about that, "oh, what if someone wants to turn right? I should get in the left lane." If you've never driven in an area before, that's one thing, but there's this one light where this happens to me literally every time I'm on my way home from school, I KNOW that most of the people driving around that late at night are local to the area. Naturally, I never pass these people so I cannot generalize as far as their gender, age, or race.

i hate people who drive like idiots. If you notice someone driving behind you thats going faster (on the freeway/highway, whatever u wanna call it) move the fuck over to the other lane and let them pass. they obviously want to be somewhere quickly so just move ur ass over, and move right back when they pass. theres no reason not to signal unless ur tryin to avoid an accident.

alright..so today im driving down a two lane road w/ a buddy (idont have a car)(1 on each side) and theres on car in my way, facing the opposite direction (so facing me, but in my lane). Shes tryin to back into her effin driveway. we nearly hit her and she gives us this "its ur fault, idiot" look. like wtf are u doing in the wrong lane in the first place, and why are u backing in like such a bitch. i hate women drivers, and especially foreigners.
    the price is right, bitch.

I dunno where you live but in Southern California most of that stuff is common. I was visiting Tennessee once and I was shocked that people in the fast lane actually moved a lane over if you wanted to drive faster than them. There is no courtesy like that where I live. If people want to drive 55 mph in the fast lane, they go ahead, they don't care to move over. Usually what I've noticed to get people to move over is tailgate them (I never tailgate but I see lots of other people do it), that's about the only thing that works to get someone out of the fast lane.

About the right turn thing, if there's space and they dont have a right turn signal on, I move in. Also about that no stop sign deal, the mall I go to has that and every so often people stop when they have the right of way, usually people at the stop sign just go and dont wait for them to figure it out. Why they do it? Probably because they are so used to stopping when they see two other lanes stopped.

The one thing that bothers me the most is people will ignore you if you are trying to turn in to their lane. I cant tell you how many times I've tried to get over in bad traffic so I can make my exit and I've had the blinker on for more than a minute and the other driver doesnt give a shit. Most of the time I cut the person off or slowly move over so they have to slow down. Other times I have to take another exit and turn around :/

You will always get stuck behind the worst/slowest/dumbest drivers when running late, it's like an unwritten law. You also probably notice these people more because you are already irritated for being late :P

It reminds me of this time that me and a few mates went to to pitch and putt place to have a couple rounds of golf. We were just practicing on the small green here there are lots of holes to practice putting and chipping onto the green. So we were just about to go to the first hole when a family of about 6 turns up and gets just ahead of it. So we figure we'd just wait a couple of minutes until they got out of the way.

About 45 minutes past and they were still at the beginning of the first hole. We had no idea why they were still there, but it was obvious none of them were hitting the ball towards hole #1.

Another 15 minutes pass and, what seems like the mum, walks over and says, "excuse me, but the idea of the game is to chip the ball into the yellow pot next to the green carpet, isn't it?" I didn't really know what she meant, and then I realised that there's a small yellow bin next to the tee-off for people to put their rubbish in, and with the hole number on the side so peoeple knew which hole was what. We actually had to explain the game of golf to her, and that you were supposed to get the gofl ball into the hole where the flag is

I honestly don't know how someone can be that stupid. Golf. How do you not know what it is? And if you didn't, why would you decide to go and play it?

I was half-expecting a TV crew to jump out for a hidden camera T show.

...and that is my story of the stupidest thing I have ever heard someone say.

                      Face hates asians!

My biggest pet peeve is when people are turning left. A lot of the times when people are turning left either into a driveway/plaza or at an intersection, there is a turning lane or middle lane specifically for turning cars. Yet instead of actually going into these lanes right away, people will slow down to almost nothing, then at the very last second turn into the turning lane, thus making you miss a light. This has happened to me so many times it's not even funny.

The other pet peeve is when people don't stop at stop signs. For some reason, people think that if they're at a stop sign, and the car in front of them has stopped and then went, they are free to go as long as they follow closely with the car in front of them. Then when you actually head out into the intersection and they almost hit you, they yell at you as if you're wrong.

Oh yeah, I hate that left turn thing.

How do you guys feel about one-lane bridges? If there's a huge lineup of cars it is OBVIOUSLY faster to go two at a time, adding an extra car adds maybe a second to the time it takes between when one side goes and the next side gets to. Still, if people are moronically going one at a time, and you decide "alright, lets do two at a time, I'm making this happen" and go as the second car, you always get flicked off. I try to combat this by giving the thumbs up to people that do that, but I bet they think I'm being sarcastic or think I'm flicking them off. Oh, well.

You must live in the middle of nowhere to have 1-lane bridges...

A lot of the time, one lane bridges will have lights on either side so that one side can go at a time really quickly.

Well, I live in suburbs that were fairly recently the middle of nowhere. The roads were built when it was basically farmland, but now roads with one-lane bridges are actually somewhat high traffic.
