Whenever I'm driving it really makes me wonder what's going through the head of the average person.
- Why do people not realize that the right lane is for slow people? People drive UNDER the speed limit in the second lane from the left all the time in my area. They got on the road on the fucking right lane, what the hell drove them to move over into traffic that was going faster than them? I understand you're a woman, and are perhaps dealing with hormones or something, and I understand you might be new to this country, but, seriously, if you've been in the country for longer than THREE FUCKING SECONDS (the amount of time it takes to notice that the right lane is for slow cars) there's no excuse for being that stupid. This activity (at least in my area, because I always glare at people that do this and can't help but notice the demographics of the people committing this atrocity) is primarily committed by middle-aged women, particularly ones that do not appear to be of Caucasian or African-American decent. Any idea why this is? I don't think women or foreign people are stupider than the rest of us, but why can't they figure out the simplest fucking thing on earth?
- Why do people not signal? I'm trying to make a right turn in heavy traffic, and finally, there's a break in traffic going to the left, and there's only one car going to the right, and they fucking slow down as if they are going to make a right turn, but not really that slow, and I'm 90% sure they are going to make a right turn, but they aren't signaling, so I don't go (the reason I don't go is coupled with the next thing I'm going to bitch about). Of course, they turn right, and then traffic picks up and I can't turn right for another fucking 3 minutes. What is going through their heads that they are too fucking lazy to signal (which is not hard to do), ESPECIALLY in a situation where they should be somewhat aware that not signaling is completely dicking over the guy trying to turn right.
- Why do people think its courteous to act in a manner completely the opposite of the way you're actually supposed to drive. Part of the reason that right-turn situation drives me so nuts is because 10% of the time there's one car coming, and they slow down as if to make a right turn, what they are actually doing is trying to let me turn right in front of them. Of course, I am not going to do that, who knows what they are thinking, and when they will just arbitrarily speed up and rear-end me. Another instance of this is when you're in a shopping center, and there are stop signs for the people exiting the shopping center, so the people entering have the right of way. This is another thing that pretty much only middle-aged women do, although this seems to be a race-neutral activity: they stop when they have no stop sign, for no reason, holding up everyone behind them. Then, they try to waive you on. At this point, I have one of two options: 1) go, and then 50% of the time the people realize that they don't have a stop sign, and go at the same time, and then I get stuck in the middle of the intersection, and I've run a stop sign, or 2) waive them on, in which case, they always say "no, you" and waive me on AGAIN, so I finally go at the exact same moment that they've given up on waiting for me to go, so, again, I get stuck in the middle of the intersection and it looks like I've run a stop sign. I fucking hate these people.
My question is, do you think people that do these things are stupid, selfish, or what?
edit: Obviously, I would be better off if I could not be so bothered by this stuff, but seriously, I never do any of those things. If people are passing me on the right, I move over immediately. I always signal, and I never stop for no reason when there's no stop sign. It just doesn't seem that complicated to me, and as I'm running late for everything all the time, these people really inconvenience me.
edit2: Oh, AND: When there's two lanes, one that is for going straight and turning left, and the other is for going straight and turning right. Right on red is allowed, and someone is the first car to pull up to the red light. WHY DO PEOPLE SIT IN THE RIGHT LANE? I always think about that, "oh, what if someone wants to turn right? I should get in the left lane." If you've never driven in an area before, that's one thing, but there's this one light where this happens to me literally every time I'm on my way home from school, I KNOW that most of the people driving around that late at night are local to the area. Naturally, I never pass these people so I cannot generalize as far as their gender, age, or race.
