But seriously, you do realize that the average MPG of all the cars bought in 2006 was exactly the same as 1986? What drives change is market pressures, and the US public wants big, gas guzzling SUV’s and trucks. Public opinion needs to change, changing laws will only cause big price increases and the average family much more money when things like health insurance costs are already sucking us all dry.
The hybrids cost big bucks, you end up throwing batteries into the land-fills every 6-7 years. Now they are going to take a charge by plugging them into your household socket. Where do people think the electricity in their house comes from? From polluting fossil fuel plants that are produce greenhouse gases.
Last year Hummers had the most consumer complaints of any vehicle (hey, if I wanted a Hummer I would have asked your sister). Number one complaint, poor gas mileage. Huh? Did these people not see the big MPG sticker in the window?
