Gall, you guys have a better system for getting rid of the snow on the roads because your country has really shitty weather and it snows a lot. You just wish you got out of school because of snow.

Actually, it hardly snows ever here. And when it does snow it usually disappears in 2/3 days. But the one or 2 days that there is a layer of snow, we don't cancel our school. Kids get on their bikes, people get in their cars, and they just go to school and work. I would say most parts of the US get far more snow then we do over here. But even if you look at Scandinavia which does get a lot of snow normally, they don't close school there either.

I have never had a day off from school because of weather, not because of snow, not because of heavy storms, not because of tons of rain. The only way schools would close here as far as I know is if there is a real flood.

Edit: And last week when it snowed, I never had more fun driving to school. I love driving in the snow, drifting, sliding.. it was awesome.

snow days and school cancellations are an AMURICAN tradition, I've had a ton of memorable times during winter that were directly, or indirectly related to school closing because of snow.

JMU is pretty much the bitchest school ever, they were closed today and have already declared a 2 hour delay for tomorrow. (We have basically the same weather conditions as they do)

Hamilton (relativly near me) is over 3 feet now.

My area is 2 - 2 1/2 feet. and you close for inches. pffft

If you can actually bike or even walk in the snow... you obviously don't ever get any REAL snowfall. Sometimes here it snows so much, it's actually impossible to bike and ridiculously hard to walk (considering the snow is much higher than any boot and you get completely soaked and cold). And if it's actively snowing, the plows don't keep up enough for you to drive safely... that's why there are snow days.

we got over 120 inches of snow upstate, and the storm is twirling toward us now.. so far we have about 9 inches of snow and it's just been a day.

School was open.

Upstate however, school has been out for over a week, and driving has been prohibited since Sunday.

Hoping my boss calls me tomorrow and tells me not to come in (I live far) and the traffic is going to be rediculous.
