I imagine you will get in trouble if you start waving the american flag on Tiananmen square or if you speak up too loud about how bad you think the government is (that would happen in many countries around the world tho) but you can discuss it with the average man on the street without causing any problems. Chinese people and chinese government treat foreginers really well, much better than their own population, cos they know they are extremely important for the future and for the development of the country.
Sweet. And yeah, I know China's not communist, but I was wondering if they still thought that, much like America still thinks it's capitalist :P I use Shenzen as an example when I talk about the free market, I'd love to live there

    • Indeed, I think you would have both more fun and more of a chance to get a job teaching english in developing countries compared with, say, Europe. I think here they are really picky on you having a teachers degree and proficiency with the local language.

Have you thought about africa btw? It's grateful work and the students are supposed to be really enthousiastic about learning.

avoid that like the plague. enthused students will only make your job harder.

        • Yeah some interesting info itt about teaching English in another country, I didn't know you didn't have to know the local language (I'd feel like an ass not knowing it, though). But the threadshitting made it even better so I have no idea what this is supposed to mean:

My apologies to Jerome, Mantra, SEAL, TK, Galleleo and most of the other posters on the first page.
Apologies for helping this become the most entertaining thread of the month???? no wai brah

I don't make it seem hard, it isn't, but it's not easy either. When you actually reach a substantial level come and talk to me. First year is always a joke.

Aww ConcreteChild you're already done when the argument was just getting interested..? I guess I won't bother replying now that you're out of this thread heh.

EDIT: I always talk like this, might be hard for some of the people here to understand but that's not my problem. I don't try to convince anyone on SS that I'm smart; I know I'm smart and that's all that matters. And seeing how the idiots on this thread have nothing better to do but talk about the words I use even though I try to speak as plain as possible, I'm out as well.

            • Nobody would care how you talk or even question it if you didn't misuse virtually every word over 6 letters that appears in your posts.

              • Maybe the first year is a joke where you study, but it hardly is over here. It's not that hard but hardly a joke.

Edit: If I am correct, in the high up parts of our high school (the highest levels and last years) we already have English curriculum running, so courses being taught in English. I wouldn't be surprised if you could teach the last few years in High School in English without knowing Dutch. I know that my teacher in the last few years only spoke English during class. He is Dutch and he speaks Dutch, but he refused to use it during class. It was all English.

Oh god, don't live in Shenzhen. It's a horrible place. If you must go somewhere, go to Hong Kong which is 10x nicer. Shenzhen is a pretty crummy place. Lots of hick uneducated migrants there who work 14 hour days. There's not much nightlife, and there's a ton of crime as well. But then again it's a ton of crime compared to HK, so maybe compared to whereever you're from it's super safe.

Schools don't work differently in Canada at all. What Ward was referring to (and linked to) is the MBA program which indeed is consistantly ranked top 3 inside Canada (along with Ivey School of Business at The University of Western Ontario, and the Rotman School at the University of Toronto). It is an excellent MBA program for sure.

As for undergrad which I assume Ward is in, it's nothing special. The best undergraduate business-type program in Canada is the commerce program at Queen's University. It's one of the few programs where McKinsey and Company will hire someone straight from undergrad (as they did my friend).

Schulich is a decent school, but it's not really that spectacular. Just lots of rich Jewish kids there, so if you're Jewish and really want to take business as your major in university it's a good place to make contacts. Other than that, their entrace requirements are pretty low compared to most other good programs anywhere.

So Ward probably isn't taking a MBA program. Just some random business major.
