why do thoughts like this pop into my head?

i was walking by a mum with a baby in a pushchair and a five (or so) year old boy by her side.

and i thought

If i were a single mum i'd train my kid to go up to random men and say

"Will you be my daddy?"

sometimes if i'm walking over and overpass, i try to time out, in my mind, the precise moment i'd have to jump to be hit in the air by oncoming traffic.
