Manhunt 2 (Ps2, Wii) banned in the UK!?

Well they only banned it initially where the people you ran over were all humans. When it was released with the people being zombies, it was fine.

They banned Carmageddon 1 because it was all humans, but they didn't ban 2 or TDR 2000 even with the humans

I was gonna pick this up for Wii but I think I'll import it.

In a little follow up, it's now rated "Adults Only" here in America. That's pretty much the equivalent of a game being rated "X" or "Unrated". Rockstar still has a ways before it goes Gold, so they're most likely going to do something to change that. Or, perhaps, they might do the big "F You" and release it knowing that Grand Theft Auto 4 is coming out soon and will pick up any slack this game drops. Never know with these guys.

It got banned after that kid killed his mate didn't it? I blamed it on manhunt being a bad influence on him or it was his excuse in hopes of getting away with it? I cant remember it properly.

Anyway my guess is if the original was banned for something like that, parents would riot if the second wasn't banned. However ... now under 18s everywhere are gonna riot cause it is banned ... ... lol

Carmageddon's ban was overturned quite quickly(I own the version with humans) and I suspect the same will happen with this.

Apparently the problem the thought police have is with the Wii controller. It's too "realistic" to wave around a stick of plastic and watch your pixel man saw off another pixel man's head. However I don't see any reason why the PS2 version wasn't given a rating. I'm sure there is much worse the BBFC have seen and approved

The first one was never banned but several retailers like Woolworths and Dixons decided to pull it from their shelves after the usual bitchfest.

Consensus seems to be mixed 50/50.

General opinion: We don't really know what is in the game yet so we can't exactly judge the basis on which it was banned. We can pick it up from abroad if we really want to. At least Manhunt 1 had some kind of moral basis behind it whereas Manhunt 2 is just killing for the sake of killing. It got an Adult Only verdict in the US as well so they're going to have to make changes.

Pro ban: There doesn't really seem to be anything to the game besides mindless killing in the first place. It's only the second game in a decade that's been banned and they can always make minor adjustments. Parents buy GTA and other more bloody games for their 8 year old kids, why do they need to play this?

Against ban: Who are they to say what we can and cannot see? Giving it a banned status just makes it more famous and kids will want to see it even more. It's only part of a trend of Saw/Hostel mindless violence to the extreme and only gains notoriety for that, there have been other games just as mindless before that came out fine, just look at Spiderman 3.
