I can't even give a decent post on this, because everything I write turns into a shitty shot at how bad Michael Moore is.

That guy fucking sucks, and it's a shame to see him being allowed to brand his movies as documentaries. It's more like biased shit.

SiCKO is much better in that regard compared to his previous ones. Only iffy thing in it is when he takes some of the 9/11 rescueworkers near guantanamo because the "terrorists" inside are getting excellent free healthcare. It does serve as a bridge to the cuban healthcare thou.

I'm at the point where I need to see a documentary from someone I trust backing up Michael Moore before I take anything he does as serious.

The world doesn't benefit on the world bashing on americans, and Moore doesn't need to make movies with the sole purpose of creating shit for USA.

We're supposted to be united, friends and allies, and when Americans like Moore does what he does he splits us apart.

        Let's fucking hold hands.

I'm gonna steal it for sure, I think Michael Moore is a shithead - I mean, he's gotta be making a killing on these movies, and I've NEVER heard anything about him donating any money to anything. There's almost nothing I hate more than a whiny liberal with a lot of criticisms but no plan for action - plays right into the hands of the republicans, who sound positive all the time, and have stupid plans, but at least it comes across better than people like Michael Moore.

That said, Vihta has been around a long-ass time and I don't see him America-bashing that much. It's annoying when certain people constantly talk about how shitty we are, but I don't think the topic should be entirely off-limits. He started a thread about a movie, I don't know.

I agree that shit doesn't help but I believe the "fuck this, Michael Moore is bias. Shut up Euro" crap is no better. Why not offer more, and ignore the idiots who keep throwing it in your face? If "people from other countries" (lets not make this about nationalism, please? it does nothing good for this forum) are wrong then educate them on how your system works, or doesn't.

I could go find facts and research the topic if I felt inclined, but my motivation to do so is severely cut down when Europeans with insecurity issues feel the need to make thinly-veiled potshots at America with the smokescreen of discussion blanketing their poor quips at humor.

My sister is paying $1200 a month for the place she's in right now, and she still lives an hour from DC. Face's gf just moved to Arlington (right across the bridge from DC) so he can give you an even better estimate of how expensive it is to live around here.
So if you make 60k and probably about 45 after taxes you're still only paying about 12 grand in rent, if you were to put a down payment on a house or apartment that's money in the bank. My mom makes 45k after taxes, supports three children and makes things work. I believe her mortgage is around $900 a month as well as her car insurance is anywhere from $2-300. The only reason I don't own a car is because the cheapest insurance I would be able to get is roughly around $300 a month, and that's just getting me street legal, there's none of that $50 insurance for a male under 25 up in here. I don't believe the cost of living in Canada or America is significantly different, the only difference is that when it comes to health care America pays their employees a lot more than Canada.

This movie concerns the United States health care industry. It is a domestic issue, the "outside world" is not a stakeholder in any policy changes or reforms that could occur in this system. Politically I think many Americans would be united on the issue of health care reform in any fashion, they just don't want to hear about it from some Canadian, European, Liberal or whatever.

I'm actually curious if anyone in Canada has insurance that isn't co-signed with their parents that cost them less than $300 a month, oh and they also have to be under 25.

edit: and you've gotta have a penis, that's an extra $100 a month.

This perhaps is a part of the problem as to why the movie by Moore was made, due to the lobbyist and special interest groups that have made our elected idiots rich and our insurance companies richer.

People never look at the voting records of multi-term politicians, nor do they consider their financial records as well as charitable disclosures.

The problem with America is that people vote for people based upon; does he or she have nice hair, do they have good teeth, do they have a nice voice...never on actual issues as well as the records of how they vote. As much as I dislike certain ppl in U.S. Politics, such as Dickhead Cheney, one thing that I respect on a charitable front is that Vice President Dick Cheney shocked the United States, and the world, when his 2005 tax returns revealed that he'd donated $6.8 million to charity.

Not bad for the man I would love to see stand in front of a defective micro wave oven. He has a pacemaker in case you wondered?

I would also love to see what the CLinton's donated?

Speaking of shitheads that do not donate monies and yet are dictating our laws and are billionares:

Here are the Congressional Disclosures for our great elected officials & how many have been "Lifelong" politicians? There really needs to be term limits on all levels of the Congress & Senate in my honest opinion.

                      Congress Disclosures List-1
                      Congress Disclosures List-2
                      Congress Disclosures List-3
                      Congress Disclosures List-4
                      Congress Disclosures List-5
                      Congress Disclosures List-6
                      Congress Disclosures List-7
                      Congress Disclosures List-8
                      Congress Disclosures List-9
                      Congress Disclosures List-10

It doesn't matter if you are a Republican or Democrat to be an asshole in our politics!

Not that I wanted to throw politics into the mix, but after seeing that these assholes for the most do not give anything back and only take...well you decide.

It was actually my buddies sister-in-law (one who's mom is a nurse), not my sister that pays $1200 a month. I know that has no real bearing on the situation but it was 4am so sue me :turned:

That's cool I agree too, it's just hard to ignore when the poster is the OP.
My father in law was telling me over Thanksgiving about this amazing bartender at some bar he frequented who could shake a martini and fill it to the rim with no leftovers and he thought it was the coolest thing he'd ever seen. I then proceeded to his home bar and made four martinis in one shaker with unfamiliar glassware and a non standard shaker and did the same thing. From that moment forward I knew he had no compunction about my cock ever being in his daughter's mouth.

                          Two issue here.
First, no one should draw any conclusions on a topic if they have only one source.
Second, any source that is for profit should be taken as just that, someone trying to make a buck. Obviously spinning things to the sensational or to the opposite of general opinion is going to create more profit. (Note that this has been going on since the first printing press. To sell more books, starting in the 1500's, they would add drama, sensationalism, and nudity to the information brought back to Europe from explorers.)

The movie itself is based upon Healthcare in the U.S. Not jumping to any conclusions on any level here. My previous note was based upon Congress and Face's note on Moore's Charitable contributions. I agree that if you make something such as a movie to gain a profit, so be it and that's what the intention was based upon to begin with. My noting of what congress makes in a monetary summation and what they have donated are completely an opposite. Not all Congressmen and women are creeps in my book, but lately we can't seem to avoid the media on finding out what the dirt is on these people.

If Americans were more informed about the Medical Insurance and Pharmaceutical Industries take over of US domestic health care policy in the first place we would have been able to prevent such SICKO heartbreak from occurring.
May your shit come to life and kiss you on the face.

Before I got medical insurance with my job our insurance for a family of 3 cost $700/month for medical + dental. This only covered part of the costs, doctor visits still cost $20 and any actual work was only paid for 80% after we paid a $3000 deductible.

Now it costs us $750/yr co-pay + $50 a month for medical/dental/vision. It's a weird complicated system that involves a lower deductible and higher part paid by the insurance company at the risk of losing $750/yr if you don't use it. As far as medical plans go according to other employees it's pretty solid one.

Either way any claims must be done by filling out this complicated form where you have to provide address, social security number, insurance number, next of kin, amount of chest hairs, any information they can get away with asking. And then they'll sit on paying you until 30 days have passed at which point they'll try to wrestle more money out of you because you're supposedly past due. And then there's the extra fees they enjoy adding on because they can. (a guy here got his $140,000 bill reduced to $70,000 simply because he told the hospital he couldn't pay so they found lots of little things they could "discount", so basically you're fleeced until you ask them).

                                ------------------

Of course back in France I just gave them my works insurance number and they took care of the rest. Even when my ex gave birth when she wasn't technically under our plan. And then when my Mom got cancer even though she wasn't a French national she got the same treatment everyone else does. In the hospital, cancer taken out within 2 weeks, as many drugs as she needs, some 90% covered by insurance, some 100% covered.

The cost on my salary? About $200/month.

                                ------------------

Oh yah, the American system is great.
