I guess. It is highly speculated that it'll be an original monster, but we all know what happens when interweb fans have too much time on their hands.

I really hope it's not another remake of some 80's cartoon or something.

Yeah, thats loosely implied. He's just saying that America needs an iconic monster but never implies that it will be something entirely original.

That quote does not say it will be original. At best it's incredibly loosely implied.

Here's a quote from Abrams himself in which he says America needs it's own iconic monster like Godzilla for Japan. This news comes from Comic-Con.

“I want a monster movie, I've wanted one for so long. I was in Japan with my son and all he wanted to do is go to toy stores. And we saw all these Godzilla toys, and I thought, we need our own monster, and not King Kong, King Kong's adorable. I wanted something that was just insane and intense. It's almost done shooting and I watch dailies and I'm more excited for them than the trailer, which has had an overwhelming response. We have 6 months before this comes out. We're going to have a whole bunch of things, a whole bunch more." He said a full trailer, more clips, full posters, and much more will be coming out over the next 6 months, including the name, which he will NOT reveal today.

“You think we'd call it Monstrous? No…"

    Source?
I've been following the Cloverfield stuff, and this is the first I've heard of that.

Sucks, they didn't show the Cloverfield trailer here in UK. I've seen it online many times, but would've been nice to see it in full cinematic glory.

Don't need to be a nerd to know about a very famous author and a very famous creature. People have been saying it's Cthulthu since they first saw the trailers, and I wouldn't doubt (nor be disappointed in the least) if it turned out to be him.

Transformers sucked all kinds of ass, and this is why.

Parts with Robots, particularly when they fight = Cool.
Parts where Michael Bay had to direct = Bad.

I ask you, why the fuck was the defense secretary of the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA in a computer room of the hoover dam shooting an old shotgun DIE-HARD STYLE? And when that bitch was like "OMFG I CAN HACK THIS COMPUTER TO MAKE IT GO TO THE INTERWEBS AND CAST OUT TEH RADIO SIGNAL" I literally moaned out loud on the opening night. Seriously one of the worst movies ever.
