Asian Professors, or, why I'm going to fail Calculus 112Q

The worst I had was a big fat guy who would stand in front of what he was writing and you couldn't see around him. He'd teach the whole class with his back to the class writing while lecturing, and you'd always be 10 minutes behind him because you couldn't get the notes til he'd finished writing in a section and moved to the next section.

I had one professor with a terrible accent, I dropped the class after 20 minutes on the first day. Wasn't worth the effort.

I'm thinking of dropping Film Studies, I go to a College which is very different from a University and the Professor has a PHD in Film, which she likes to rub in our faces. I paid to go to college not to have 3 hour lectures where the teacher talks so fast that you half right out her lecture and have movies shown to you but stopped twenty minutes before the ending because it's not about 'entertainment'. She changed our classroom to this little space where we have to squeeze in just so she could have a working remote in her room, she didn't want to use her laptop during the film. We use to have this large open room where we sat in a U and it was comfy now we're sitting in a high school classroom that sucks more ass than an ass can suck.

I have a guy from Singapore teaching me Operations Management, in broken English and that ain't even our primary language!

Yet I can follow everything fine. He actually gets more annoying as time goes by.

If I go to class on the first day and even get the slightest bad feeling about the professor I drop it or find another section. Not worth the semester of misery.

well, can't you change profs for the same class? Accents are annoying as hell... I had a belgian math prof once and he sounded like he was coughing up a loogie whenever he tried to pronounce "hyperbole"

The only other choice was an hour earlier with a professor that had a think Indian accent and was a total dick. This guys a pushover, I just have no idea what he's telling me to do.

Reminded me of a calc professor I had. Not only were you unable to see around him, but his gut erased what he had written on the board when he moved from side to side. Made for a fun time writing things down once he had moved.

That sucks. I'm midway through shooting my 2nd long short (about 20-30 mins.)

But I'm thinking this worthless film degree isn't going to pan out. Photojournalism here I come!

Well, If I didn't have a Doctor professor (and no one with a doctorates would be a high school teacher) or someone hired adjunct but qualified (like my old criminal law teacher who was a lawyer), then I must agree.

Though TK, don't get me wrong.... Could you teach it? Sure.... But college is a whole different game (and you know that). The person DTF was talking about went through all the steps to become a teacher, and it really is all about intelligence. If you can go through graduate school and become a teacher, you'll have no problem getting a job.



And, with no racist views attributed, he's asian and good at math.. 'nuff said. With a doctorates in math, what uni wouldn't hire him, regardless of his english speaking skills? Is he hard to understand? Wah. Deal with it, he's your Goddamn professor. I don't think anyone should be sympathetic because you're in a high-up mathmatic course with a teacher with an accent (and most haven't been).

I assume you have gone to your mentor or w/e it is you have as a contact person in staff with your problems? They usually can recommend another teacher/ TA that can help you, or if more people have a problem deal with it directly. (but foreign teacher still add humor to classes, hungarian math teachers ftw =)
