i'm sure you heard he raised 5 million in a quarter (he was expecting 1 million and they bumped it up), which is a 114% increase in funds. every other top tier candidate's quarter funds lowered 20-40%

of the 30 GOP straw polls, he has placed first in 10 and placed at least third in 14 more.

romney sees 50-100 people per campaign stop, Paul hasn't had less than 800 a night for three months now.

the campaign is still raking in 20,000 new people a day.

ron paul has a snowball's chance now, but at this rate, his message is going to become fairly widespread, and if he gets through primaries, i can see him having a decent shot.

i have every issue of time from 1975 to 1994 (found 'em in the attic), along with a bunch of other political magazines and such, and they give me hope - i mean, you don't think about it now, but people said the same thing about Carter and Nixon as they are saying about Paul now, though they also had more national exposure and the support of their bases.

i live in louisiana, where everyone over the age of 40 votes republican, and i'm seeing ron paul bumper stickers on hippie vans as well as bmw's. cruising through the rich suburbs and gated communities, i see alot of Paul yardsigns as well.

hell, even my friends who are very leftist, some radical, are voting for paul.. they see him as an opportunity to get government out of the pocket of corporations, a view i also support but for a different reason - corporatism is not capitalism and not in any way beneficial to anyone but the companies.

Honestly, the more I hear about Ron Paul the more I want to write in his name on the 08 ballot.

The country's ready for radical change by someone that genuinely wants to make a positive difference.

But then again, I see a lot of the same qualities in Obama as well.

Ron Paul needs to stay where he can only vote on laws, because he'll veto anything that Congress will ever put out. Plus, the GOP will never back him because he doesn't believe in a standing army.

How can you be for personal liberty and against amnesty for illegal aliens? Fuck that. And abolishing the income tax? What the hell?

Sure I agree with some of the stuff, but I'm not going to let the Digg republic sway me into blindly following some internet god.

He does believe in a standing army, just not a pre-emptive, interventionist one.

Ron Paul's goals are definitely not going to be possible in 4 years, but he'll definitely cut back heavily on spending, agencies, and taxes.

If ron paul wins, it's going to speak volumes about the peoples' choice about how the government should be ran, and I think he'll have enough political capital to at least get the ball rolling. If he faces a hostile congress, they'll probably face getting elected out of office. Paul's election will single to Congress that the American people are back into real politics and being represented, especially since he's a Federalist... he believes states should have control over alot of things that are federally regulated now (abortion, etc), and local politicians and people will definitely be on board for that.

I predict in his first four years he's going to try to implement a strategy not unlike what Ireland did back in the 80's - hacked away everything that wasn't incredibly necessary, which then allows for taxes to be lowered, and then worked on aconomic reform (most of the regulations and laws are completely voluntary but businesses comply, especially since they're taxed pretty low, compared to alot of other countires)

Paul's views on personal liberty and his views on (illegal) immigration are not contradictory... he believes in individual sovereignty, and believes the government is an extension of that sovereignty (a la the Social Contract) - ie, a government of the people, not for the people. Illegal immigrants violate our personal property and sovereignty rights by entering the united states.

Paul wants to legalize drugs, get rid of NAFTA, and get rid of protectionist policies like tariffs. This will open our borders economically, and as a result, Mexico won't have any illegal immigrants coming over - one, immigration itself will slow down when they get the full benefit of foreign capital from American business, and two, immigrating will become less restricted - on-par with our border with Canada, perhaps, because of strong economic ties.

So basically, he is against illegal immigration, but what people never realize is, he's still for legal immigration, and the net effect of his policies will be to open our borders - economically.

I've never read anything about him being fully legalizing, just medical, and just that he was against the War on Drugs. It doesn't take a MD to see that the War on Drugs is all but a waste of money anyhow.

here's his file, an aggregation of articles he's written as well as speeches he's given in congress

edit: poking through it, i found an article where he basically predicted what just happened with our dollar:
                              http://www.lewrockwell.com/paul/paul319.html

he seriously knows his shit, he's the closest to a "philosopher king" we might have for quite some time
