my parents had some of their friends over during the weekend. Most of them had kids under 3 so it was crazy as hell had to watch an hour of spongebob with them. but their was this one kid, he never spoke at all since i saw him, he was about/looked around 2.
I like crawled to him and tried to get his attention, but he stared at the wall. i was like double u tee f? so i tried to tickle his tummy but he remained fixated on the wall. so i tried doing the hands in front of face peekaboo thing. Nothing. They slept over and everything and i never heard that kid say one word, not yell, whine. so i come to you people of trenchwars with a problem. i looked up online symptoms of autism and he fit most of them. what should i do, i dont wanna tell his parents hey ur kid looks like he has autism. All the other kids in the house were ridiclosly loud, and he remained quiet.

It's their friends, they know them better than you. Makes them more capable to judge what action is right. Since your parents know them better, maybe they know a thing or two that changes the situation.

depends, could just be a slow learner or indeed autism

i know my former nextdoor neighbour had there youngest out of 4 with autism and it's very hard. The kid developed latter than most a vocabulary of a hundred words or so but then regressed to less than 30. Very tough for a parent to bond with a kid who doesn't respond emotionally.

However the problem , though its a severe case, was diagnosed early and with the use of cards and pictograms they're having a route of communication at least now.

If i were you i'd raise this up with the parents unless the kid was younger than the rest and a slow learner , there is alot of helpfull methods now to try and deal with the syndrome

I'm pretty sure the parents already know their child has a social disability. The fact you can see it in one evening without prior knowledge about autism suggest most other people can too. Just in case I would bring it up with his/your parents.

The idea that all autistic children are geniuses in some area is false, autistic persons having one particular skill are called savants and are quite rare, just as normal people might have a very strong skill in, for example, music. It is just more obvious as autistic persons usually are incapable of normal life as we see it.
Light versions of autism also exist, one example being aspberger's syndrome (sp?) which is basically a clinical definition of being a nerd and still allows a person to have a perfectly normal life.

And although aluminium and heavy metals like mercury have been blamed for nervous system damage, it is highly unlikely only that particular part of a brain has been affected, let alone at a very young age (unless you lick mercury/lead paint as a child and even then). Chelation therapy is not without side effects and should certainly not be used without a proper diagnosis.

Autism is a very broad spectrum, i work with people that have disabilities and ive been to my share of conferences. Autism is also linked with Aspergers Syndrome. i was 18 years old before i found out i was autistic, and i grew up (relatively) normal

i think it's nothing but neurodiversity. i have some friends that are socially awkward, and i have friends that are "gifted"... but since i have both traits, i have a disability? fuck that.

if you want to know what autism, at least for me, is like - do LSD. every time i have ever tripped, regardless of company present, people always tell me i'm exactly the same as i am when not tripping. not in the "i see walls breathing and dancing" way, but the "i can't stop thinking about anything and everything.. ever" way. i, quite literally, never "think about nothing". it's why i'm an insomniac... i can stay up till four in the morning thinking about economics, or music, or whatever.

up until the seventh grade, i was one of those kids that never talked and was really shy... but it was because i was always in my head. kids would come up to me at recess and ask me to play kickball or some bullshit, and i'd just sort of launch into a play-by-play of the apollo 17 lunar mission. when i was in the third grade, i corrected three errors in my teacher's grammar book... i loved reading anything i could get my hands on.

the big thing is "the game". it's what i always called social interaction... it fascinated me to watch people deal with eachother. i never understood why people lied, or did certain things, hell, i never understood why people said 95% of the shit that they talked about. why should i ask how your day went? i don't care. why are you asking me? you don't care, either. why are you trying to hug me? i'm not your fucking boyfriend... etc, etc. i still have trouble with certain things, especially fucking women. like, i'll know a chick, and we'll date, and every time they always say something like "jeez about time, i've liked you for like 3 years", well fuck you i don't play bullshit cat and mouse games, if you want my dick fucking ask for it.

the biggest suprise for me, when i found out i had autism, was that it wasn't a suprise. autistic kids are super fucking self-aware, i knew i COULDN'T be a normal kid by the time i was in the fifth grade, mainly because everyone else was a moron.

it sucks that i have poor motor skills so i'll never be a jimi hendrix, but i can rattle off music biographies and discographies like it's nobody's business. i'm not an eloquent speaker and my writing is kind of droll and encyclopedic, but within the past few years i've absorbed more ideas and concepts than you can shake a stick at. besides that, i am absolutely horrible at abstract thinking; logic puzzles and riddles and other "outside of the box" type things stop me cold in my tracks

but the hands down number one thing ever: i'm an asshole, a genetically hard-wired asshole - apparently i lack "empathy" towards other people.

Symptoms of Autism will start to present early, but 2 years old may be a bit early to make any definitive diagnosis. Still, early diagnosis is important in terms of treatment (kids identified early who have early intervention can do quite well, relatively speaking).

As others have said, there is a wide range within the paradigm of 'autisic spectrum disorder'. But basically if the kid has autism there's a long list of things that kid must have before a diagnosis is made. Even then, care should be taken to make sure the kid doesn't have an alternate diagnosis, such as Fragile X which could mimic autism especially for the mentally retarded part.

Sometimes the parents may not notice it or may be in denial. Alternately the parents could already know, and just don't go around announcing it to everyone. I don't really know what your personal role would be, I suggest talking to your parents about it first if it is their friend.
