Yes, very smart of you to bring in the second world war, because it's a school example of how soldiers are used as tools by propaganda and nationalism.
Germany in the forties is an example of a country that highly valued militarism and heroism. Not to mention that it had an ideological leader, which is very common in countries that are in a depression.
Thats the point Zerzera. army is a tool of the leadership of a country to deliver security or attack force (depend what the purpose is).
Because you can not relay on other nations and civilizations to not attack you, you need an army and support it (like you said, its circular).
since you don't live in a world where all the nations doesn't have armies, the least you can do is support your own army, but change your leadership.
thats why tyrant are very dangerous, and its only for the best that US is getting ride of them. you do not hear what they do in their own homeland.
What i learned was that WW2 was a result of WW1 which was started because a single person was shot. Someone might argue not starting a war back in 1914 but negotiationg would have been a better way to go.
Hitler had a whole point of view about races and how thing should be in the world, in 'Mein kampf' that he wrote. After WW1 tho, Germany was in a very bad economical situation, It helped Hitler take the leadership (and moving the wheels of war, It also raised the production and economical status of Germany, so he had public support).
anyway, don't ignore history since it was not long ago, and our world still goes by the resoults of what happened then.

Farscape...theres really no point in arguing with these kids I've given up on my long winded posts long ago. You see, I am a man of action. Most of the whiners here, and even my former self that would sit here posting and arguing about dumb shit all day are just that - whiners. You can sit here having a discussion all day about whats right and whats wrong, but when it comes down to it, no one of importance cares what anyone here thinks. It puts my mind at ease to know that europe doesnt matter in the grand scheme of things, because when all is said and done no matter how much all of you hate what we are doing, all you're going to do is whine at us to stop it. Zerzera is one of the best examples of this. He hates what I do, and whines about it constantly, but I'm still going to continue doing it as though he doesnt exist. I dont need to change his mind...he's not important. Therefore, I win the argument every time. And until you want to do something to support your own cause, you might as well just not even talk about it on here. Period.I'm just a middle-aged, middle-eastern camel herdin' man

Soldiers need to be respected for their commitment to serve their country through both the bad and good. If Armies questioned every decision for themselves, then we'd have Nigeria. Think of it as a governmental agency which serves the country by serving the current administration. The EPA sure didn't like bush's rejection of Kyoto, but they continued to operate on the administration's decisions. Think of it like Britain's Whitehall, the military is no different.
Edit: Tell me, do you also disrespect those soldiers that died in the defense of your nation?

You don't not to educate me, thank you.
What started the WW2 in Europe was Germany invasion of Poland and Japan expansionism in the east.
WW1 prepared the ground for those events (for example, The rise of USSR, Nazis, The coalitions to regain what lost in WW1, The situation in Europe).
One of the reasons the Germans hated the Jewish was because the Nazis blamed them for the situation that Germany got into after The WW1, if not even losing the war itself.
If you meant that, then I agree with you completely.

As the thread creator am I allowed to request that it be closed? I only wanted to open a few eyes and have them pointed at what I feel to be a worthy cause. All this garbage about WWII and treason, and "my beliefs are better than your beliefs" really are not welcome here. So please save what little dignity this topic has left and close it.
Note: Nice link Wax.

I want to thank the troops for all that they've done for me. I have been very, very, very silly.
I respect every soldier, but my friend Peter who served in Afghanistan and came back as a different person. I guess he didn't have a spine after all.
This was the last time I advocated peace and reason to anyone.
To make up for my mistakes the next elections I will vote for the Wilders party.
That's no joke. You ate some priest porridge

And I want to quote something from one of the strangest books I've ever read.
And Rostov got up and went wandering among the campfires, dreaming of what happiness it would be to die— not in saving the Emperor’s life (he did not even dare to dream of that), but simply to die before his eyes. He really was in love with the Tsar and the glory of the Russian arms and the hope of future triumph. And he was not the only man to experience that feeling during those memorable days preceding the battle of Austerlitz: nine tenths of the men in the Russian army were then in love, though less ecstatically, with their Tsar and the glory of the Russian arms. You ate some priest porridge
