He sure did. He always claimed he would continue writing until they nailed his coffin shut, and that's exactly what he did.
The last book, Memories of Light was supposed to be the final book of the series and would be bigger than any previous book due to the amount of storyline the author had to conclude.
He has finished all his notes and spoke with his family about how he wanted his series to be concluded so possibly another author will finish the book with the help of his notes and the family.
It's really sad, but apparently it is the way great fiction writers end (Herbert
