A question for Americans...

If you were president what would you do. (note this isnt a republican or democrat hate thread, this is simply what you personally would want to improve)

If I was president-

1) I would make it illegal for any automated system to say "Press 1 for english"

2) I would increase border patrols, but decrease the time it takes to apply for a US Visa. This country was founded on Immigration and I see no reason to take so long filling out an application.

3) I would do a country wide grocery tax of 3 percent, then invest in programs to help the homeless. We should take care of our own people before helping other countries.

4) I would make a law stating that any corporation wishing to sell their merchandise in the United States must move all corporate/factories into the USA. By us using Mexico, Canada, India, and China. We are losing money that should be used in America. This would decrease unemployment and increase the economy

make all bill board advertisements illegal. they are ugly, there is enough room for advertising online, on tv, in magazines etc, and they give companies too much power, if i want to go a day without getting bombarded with psychological devices designed to turn me into a consuming sheep i should have that opportunity. if i want to look at some rolling hillsides or a skyline view of a city, i should be able to do so without having to look at some 50 foot slut telling me to get drunk and forget that i could be a campassionate human being.

finally, when you become president, VP, a senator or congressman, or any other form of public office, on your second term you give up your party affiliation and work for the benefit of the country, not your party. you can work for your party your first term, but after that, you need to work for the country as a whole and not just your rich friends.

I'd pull powers and create a dictatorship, call my self the new Caesar of the West (or Czar, I haven't decided) ... (or maybe make up a new name, I dunno) and put everybody in line, because the system as it is right now has too many hoops to jump through to get any shit done.

-Centralize Health Care
-Force domestic automotive companies to push for Hybrid on ALL cars except for: Mustangs, Corvettes, Vipers, Chargers. We still need those for the people to believe they have freedom on the road.
-Then, contract a company to create a People's Fuel Cell that runs off of Hydrogen, Bio-Diesel, or something.
-Build Ties with China and Cuba, as well as our friends in the Middle East. A friend in need is a friend in deed, but a friend who will take your exports is better.
-Colonize the Moon
-Homeland Security actually meaning something. Pulling out the troops at a gradual pace from Iraq, keeping our footholds in areas we have already back down to pre-9/11 levels, and then posting the newly formed Centurion Guard within the American boarders to secure the country from rebellion.

Chances are, this will kill their international competition abilities in an ever more globalizing world. I don't see how that is good for your economy.

In the long run (over the course of a few lifetimes) a xenophobic approach with the establishment of the 3 job markets (agriculture, manufacturing, services) creates a strong imbalance of wealth, featuring few strong countries and many poor countries. However other factors (climate factors, creativity and in some cases war) can shift these wealth poles between different countries. The leader of today won't necessarily be the leader of tomorrow as we're currently seeing with riches shifting to oil producing countries and cheap labor sources such as India and China. A future shift will occur when oil runs out for the countries who became rich off oil but don't invest that money correctly. We see two different approaches of investing for the future today with Chavez policy of giving oil money to the poor, trying to create a better working class to give themselves a better chance in the future. On the other hand the rich folk of Dubai see their best chances in being a tourist destination and a haven for the rich, fueling the hotel and tourism industry with wealth in the hopes that in the future people will come over and spend their money there. If Chavez tried this approach it would be doomed to failure.

A great deal of the bedrock of American wealth/economy was built on cheap agricultural and industrial labor; starting in the 15th century with slave labor and maintained an extensive presence until the mid 1900's. Today it's less prevalent with mostly only illegal immigrants being severely exploited financially and minor exploitation with regards to different pay structures for women, people of non-white ethnicity or school experience (someone with a Bachelors will get paid more for the same job than someone with just a HS diploma). The absence of cheap labor combined with the greed of executives means that in order to be profitable they're exporting labor.

Exportation of labor pools (and a general global spread of the economical market) is negative in the short term for rich countries. However in the very long term it would create a balance of wealth shared among countries. A system akin to this is going on in Europe, with populations migrating between countries depending where the work is, and clients going to certain countries depending where they can find resources. Agricultural goods (the UK produces 70% of it's food requirements and France produces over 120%) and Manufacturing being the early examples. This is now extending to services such as electricity (France's nuclear power stations produce an abundance of electricity for exporting), financial services and in the near future health care (laws are being drafted to, for example, allow British citizens to go to France for health care treatment, and in turn France could bill the UK). In the long run a balance of wealth would be achieved. Some countries would produce goods (and the labor pool would be used for creating said goods) and others who don't have the means or ability to create goods would provide other services.

Of course, this reeks of communism, which is probably banned somewhere in the Constitution.
