so the fact that you dont know how to run linux means its not a viable option? fail.

also, your setup does not run CRYSIS on max settings, stop talking out of your ass.

    Intel QX9770
    ASUS Striker II Extreme
    OCZ DDR3-1600MHz
    THREE nVidia 9800GTX in triple-SLI
    1920x1200 resolution, no AA/AF

    32.7fps AVG

    GG!

First off, Crysis is not all about graphics so your triple sli bullshit is useless (the amount of physics/processes crysis has is what makes it lag).

2nd your processor doesn't do well in overclocking (because it has already been overclocked oem) although stocked it has 3.2ghz, too hot to touch on air cooling. I will give it 5 stars though from its 45nm feature.

3rd Your fukin rig is expensive, but nice. I would of fronted cash for the 790i ultra striker ii but i don't need it.

4th I do run Crysis at maximum settings exept for anti-aliasing

5th This topic is about the build at a budget.

            1) Running crysis with only 1 9800GTX at 1920x1200 with no AA or AF, avg fps is a pathetic 14.8, there goes your first point out of the window.

            2) It overclocks decently well, the cpu used for the tests managed 4050mhz on AIR which is just a shade behind our Q6600.

            3) It's free of charge.

            4) Still BS

            5) Fine, dont make up a bunch of shit that isn't true

Yes 1 video card does matter better off with 2, but 3 video cards is useless in this case unless your duo monitoring.

Replace that video card with a physics card and notice the difference. The new videos do have the physics codec install within them but focus mainly on video streams. Physics card focuses only on physics and physic engines and GREATLY reduces the physics run when upping the resolution in Crysis. Phsyx just came out and people shrug it off not knowing its capabilities.

Yes, I do know how to run linux and I managed to only overclock my q6600 to 3.2ghz stable as opposed to vistas 3.6ghz. Ask me why? I dunno....
I did play around using this method to overclock
              300 fbs by 12x multiplier
              or
              360 fbs by 10x multiplier

iether or at 1.5 v works fine.

by the way, qx9770 does not run on air at 4.1gz.... and Q6600 ($189 at 95w) can run at par OCZ with qx9770 ($1,549 at 150w) notice the watt difference, if liquid cooled....good to know right?

Your rig is so ridiculously expensive, its not even funny.

Only a few comments, do you really think you'll need a Raptor?

I doubt you'll see a huge performance increase, I'd say it'd be more worth it just to go for a standard 7,200RPM 500GB drive, save money and get more capacity. But hey, if you've got the money it's probably not a hugely bad a idea to get a raptor for your OS partition and then a separate 500GB 7,200RPM drive for your games/movies etc.

Also, a physics card, seriously? The current gen of nVidia GPUs can handle PhysX, and your claim that you'll see better framerates in Crysis because of the card is purely false. Crysis does NOT support hardware physics acceleration with the PhysX card.

Finally, do you really need a $130 sound card? On board sound is pretty good these days, and unless you have some super awesome speakers (which no doubt you'll claim you do) most people can't really see much of a difference. A lot of it will be the placebo effect, "hey I spent $150 on this sound card, I can so hear how much better it is!". Same with audiophiles and their $100 power cables.

By the way, Fit of Rage:
The two versions of Home Premium you'll see are OEM & Retail.
Retail is designed for stupid folk who just "wanna buy windows" for their computer etc.
OEM is designed for people like you who are building a PC.

The only difference is the licensing. I am not 100% sure, but I think the OEM license is basically locked to the computer you activate it on. You are allowed a certain number of component changes before it is considered a "new PC" and a new license is required. Different component changes count differently. For example, adding a new CD-ROM drive won't count much, but changing the motherboard & CPU will perhaps count as a new PC on its own. They're normally quite good on the phone though, and you can normally phone up, say you had a motherboard failure and so had to replace it and they'll re-activate it for you instead of having to buy a new license.

Also, definitely get the 64-bit edition. It enables you the opportunity to go 4gb+ of RAM in the future, and it doesn't have the problems XP 64-bit had/has. All 32-bit apps should run natively, the only ones that will have problems are ones that require weird drivers (Vista x64 requires drivers to be digitally signed/approved), you shouldn't really come across any though unless you're installing some old game with an old version of Starforce or something.

adding to what Ewan said, with the OEM version of Vista, you can change everything bar the Motherboard before it asks for you to "reactive" it.

as for the motherboard failure "trick", MS states that a faulty MB must be replaced with the same model, so they might give you a hard time

Ewan, thank you very much as usual for providing the exact information I was looking for. My motherboard should be good for a while, has 8GB RAM capacity and quad-compatability. By the time I upgrade to a quad-core, Windows 7 will probably be out and it should be time for an OS upgrade anyway.

Yes, I did lots of writing on my old comp and I find it faster logging into windows, playing games(loads), doing searches within drive, checking for viruses and writing data on cds. Raptor sure helps alot.

Your correct, the current GPU do handle physx and its codec, but like I said before they mainly work video streams especially when a game hogs the resources of a GPU and ram. The physx card is like adding another core to your processor but not really. It takes off most of the work from physic engines so your CPU can worry about other things, so in theory YES it does help in playing games. The card is still being developed and there has been some holds on that, not to sure why nVidia is keeping this crap a secret. Most say its because its been imbedded within new GPUs but nVidia declines that!

I can do without a sound card ....but it improves gameplay!

Ok, fair enough, if you have money, get a Raptor.

But regarding a PhysX card, as I said, few games support it. These non-supporting games include Crysis, and thus this game will NOT offload the physics processing on to the PPU.

Also, regarding the soundcard improving "gameplay", can you please provide a source that is not the manufacturer's own site?

Also, the article you linked regarding the PhysX card is from over 2 years ago. Most recent literature I have read has pointed towards the card being a flop / can be considered redundant.

I'll back this up with some articles etc when my computer stops being a total shitheap and starts responding in a timely manner.

NINJA EDIT: Did you even read the article you provided regarding the PhysX card? Even though it's two years old, the conclusion was less than favourable.
