who knows, this may be the best shot we've ever got to legalize pot.

i'm doing it, and i'm encouraging everyone i know who isn't bigoted about pot to do it too.

not like ppl are going to start buying from walmart.

It's only going to make ppl start growing their own weed and not give a shit about it.

HB: Look I could go on and argue with you about the pros and cons about the use of marijuana. I'm not going to. It's been done before so many times. And I'm just not going to bother, because there is no point in arguing with people such as yourself who won't listen to logic or reason. If you fail to see what I said (as simply stated as I could) then please, if you wish to understand what I meant then I will gladly explain that.

You can't stop people from taking any mind altering substance.

They tried with alcohol, it failed. Now look at it today.

It's only a waste of money, unless you are in the business of prison systems and criminal law.

There was a thread for this.

see there's a problem with that. Fuck having a criminal record for something I do in my house that affects no one. Maybe your life's already set, and a criminal record want do shit to you. Even then, you should still not want it, and should defend your right to not be labeled as a criminal.

It's not about avoiding laws, we do that every day when we speed down the freeway. It's about not wasting resources, ruining more lives than addiction, and imposing government morality upon the people.

Personally, i would rather quit smoking weed than go to jail for it. That's why i'm not addicted to it.

And on the prices-- Why is the price of 1/8 artificially set around 40-50 dollars for the majority of america? It's not because it costs that much to grow it and manufacture it for sale. you're paying middle men and they make huge profits off of it being illegal. Grown on your own, or even by the government, it would not have to change as many hands. And I'd gladly pay more, even though you wouldn't have to pay anything - just grow it, to not have to worry about jail, fines, and being labeled a criminal.

there's more to it than that, although not a lot. The bill doesn't say a lot on that respect, and it's not like it would change any state or local laws. I assume it would still be up to states and localities to enact their own laws, and set a strict definition of "responsible".

however if you want to read it in it's entirety, i'll find a link.

apparently according to your logic, if people aren't going to stop doing somthing than it shouldn't be illegal. let me try this basic logistical form of modest ponens.

People wont stop murdering each other.
                        Murder is illegal.
Murder should be legalized / decriminalized.

                                you complain regardless of situation.

and i'd much rather pay uncle sam than most drug dealers or illegal aliens who ship the shit in.

Reacharounds? you could say - i am a gov't worker, the state signs my check. More taxes = more money to pay me. Also gives great benefits too. Huge refund check this year.

But it's a moot point, because it WONT be more expensive. Not to mention, if you read the bill (i know you didn't) it doesn't address this issue. Like i said, it's to eliminate federal laws that prohibit possession and sale. You would be paying $0.00 for weed, because by definintion the law still forbids you to charge for it. Only "not for profit transfers of less than one ounce" are included in the bill. It also doesn't allow you to grow... kinda short sighted I admit, but it's a start.

Another great thing this law would do would be to allow legal research to be done on marijuana. As of now, no one, no company, no clinic, no one; can research or experiment with weed but the DEA. This is one of the huge reasons people still have misconceptions about what weed does to your body-- the gov't supresses any research at all, and holds strong to it's 50 yr old, biased studies on marijuana.

IMO it would be wise to reissue stamps, but for growing. Only allow so many people to have stamps. Or, make them for commercial growing (say 10 plants at one time or something). Then tax the fuck out of the stamps. No need to have them for possession, that just leads to a book of names that doesn't need to exist.
