  • Las Vegas

I'll be at san fran for a conference in a month from now, and i booked a flight to vegas after that to experiance that for the first time in my life (staying at the wynn).

Can anyone here help me out with do's or don't over there? I'll be on my own, so i'll probably skip clubbing or such.

I'm staying for 2 nights, so i figured out ill be walking the strip and let the universe take care of it all. Any help is appreciated. Such as what's not worth my money, what's a good dining (good value for money.... in terms of sushi or pizza).

    Thanks!

Don't take any stripper cards from the mexicans... you take them from one guy, or have some in your hand, and they'll be swarming all over you.

They are expensive, but you should book a Blue Man Group or Cirque Du Soleil show, they are awesome!

Make sure you wander around the oldest part of Vegas just for history's sake; Fremont Street Experience at night is cool.

You could spend 2 days just walking to each hotel and wandering around inside them all. (note: the hotels are not as close as they seem on a map, so plan according to how far you want to walk).

From the top of my head, Caesar's Palace was cool to walk through. The Luxor (giant black pyramid) is cool from the outside but not much to see on the inside.

Don't play the slot machines in the airport.
        Go see Danny Gans.
Oh, and the Bellagio fountains shut down at around 10 or 11 pm, so don't stand out there for an hour at 1am like I did waiting for them

Ya they like make snapping noises with the cards, I bet before they get out there they all collaborate methods of card snapping and try to build off of each other's suggestions, like seirously haha

The Wynn is expensive as shit. If you want to gamble on the strip, the prices all go up on nights and during the weekend. If you want to gamble for cheap, you can always go downtown on the deuce, but its nowhere near as nice.

It's nice to just try out the casino's. Walk in play a few hands of pai-gow poker. See what the atmosphere is like. Rate the cocktail ladies on how hot they are (Rio has the best ).

The best way to gamble is take some money and expect to lose it. If you are winning then woohoo. If not then you can still get a few drinks and talk to some new people.

I saw both Blue Man Group and Cirque Du Soleil (Beatles - Love) as well as Fremont Street at night... All pretty cool, and Freemont is free, so that's good. There's this little casino called "Slots of Fun" that has $1, $3, $5 table games, 99cent footlong hot dogs, and $2.50 beer bottles... So that's nice if you wanna do that kinda stuff for cheaper.

I was gonna go to a famous hypnotist, but he cancelled that day so we ended up seeing this lesser known dirty hypnotist... Which was hilarious, and also $15 for all you can drink drafts during the show... Don't remember his name. And also went to see a comedian at some casino (can't remember the name), and ended up seeing two college friends there, which is crazy considering the size of Vegas... Comedian's name was Vinnie Favorito, he's one of those comedians that mostly just make fun of the audience members (he made fun of me lolol). He was pretty good, too.

I'll post some pics after my dd

                edit:

edit edit: oh and we stayed at the MGM Grand... We reserved online and they had a deal stay 2 nights get the third free... dunno if they still have that goin on

                  So, so far i have:
                  - Stark: Don't interact with mexicans on the street...it sounds pretty obvious, but thanks anyways. good to know that's scam.
                  - mirrorM: Blue Man Group or Cirque Du Soleil show: well.. Thanks for the input. However, but ive seen it over here too. i like your idea's though, do you have more of those? (dont bring up celine dion hehe)
                  - aquatig: see Danny Gans: ill find out what that is when im sober. thx
                  - go to paris and get the big margaritta from the effel tower specialty cup: im not into those, but is it worth the experiance/try: what makes it so special?
                  - ikillburger: why is wynn expensive? you mean the hotel rate or the drinks over there?
                  - stark: Vinnie Favorito, the man who makes fun of audiance... : that sounds like a must see, thanks man. the hypnotic thing sounds fun to do with my collegue's too.

Thanks for the input, keep 'm coming =)
i've also thought of doing a 'visit the hotels tour' which will probably take a good afternoon/day. obviously i have to do some poker.

oh yeah...so how... what kinda websites can you recommend? googling vegas gives me too many hits ya know? all i want to know is what's "hot" to see (that excludes a midget family dancing). Such as jerry seinfield (who isnt there around my time) or such.

                  thanks

The New York, New York roller coaster was alright. Since we had a week, we did a lot of stuff. If you only have a few days, then probably don't do it.

I thought Penn and Teller was awesome. It was definitely one of my favorite shows there. Bellagio fountains are always good to see. The pirates show was cancelled due to rain clouds : (

                          Favorite hotels:
                          New York, New York
Mandalay Bay (nice sports room, very very nice. I also think they have a mini beach there too?)
                          Venetion had some nice artwork.

I only drove on the Strip once to get that tourist feeling. After, I just stuck to the backroads for travel. Much easier imo.

I believe the Wynn is so expensive because its the newest hotel built on the strip. It's beautiful inside! The guy who owns it (Wynn) also owns numerous other hotels: Treasure Island, Bellagio, and The Mirage. I would type in "top 10 things to do/see in Vegas" in google for more specific results.

                            A few pics of Wynn:

I also went to the Secret Garden at the Mirage for the tiger and dolphin exhibit, rode the rides at the top of the Stratosphere, saw the Ferrari and other expensive cars exhibit in Wynn, ate at the top of the Palms...basically went everywhere. It was all fun.

If you have to ask what to do in Las Vegas then you don't belong there.
