In this case I think most people would run. At the time it was late at night and most people were sleeping. The victim was easily attacked because he was sleeping with headphones on. Someone runs by slapping/pushing you, screaming to move your ass or die. Attacking him right away would have lead to far more people hurt or killed and he was already gone before anyone could have reacted.
