if you want to return to the 1950's thinking that smoking is cool as a counter culture to all the current medical evidence that shows how bad it is for you fine. But to spout such nonsense that by the time cancer is an issue for you they'll have cured it is just stupid.
It doesn't matter whether or not smoking is bad for someone - my usual routine before I light up is to say something like "well, time to go die a little".
I don't smoke because it's cool. I smoke so I won't self-righteously impose on others and call them naive and idiotic with little to no actual knowledge of where they stand on the issue. Smoking keeps me from getting stressed, and to me that means I'll be able to get 70 years' worth of living done in the 50 years I have left to live.
You should probably go send Dameon Angell a private message to tell him that he is naive and idiotic for living in Los Angeles, where the smog is proven to cause lung and heart problems in the population. Perhaps I will go to my representative and see if I can get people banned from living in Los Angeles - or at least get "WARNING LIVING HERE WILL KILL YOU" labels posted on every building and billboard, as well as adding a 10% tax to everything sold there.
Smoking might be good - it might be bad - it doesn't matter. Some individuals succumb to cancers, others live to be older than even most non-smokers. I myself probably can't run mmore than 500 feet without dying - but I never run or jog, so how much of that is due to smoking as opposed to my generally unfit lifestyle? My brother smokes a pack a day and he's only getting better and better as a soccer player - winning his high school's State division, his select team's State division, and several awards in the Olympic Youth Development Program.
So when I'm on my deathbed, I'll give you a call and tell you smoking was bad for me - if you're still alive.

There is a lot of progress made so far, but for sure there is years more research needed or a shitload of luck for a lucky researcher before we are really closer to eradicating cancer in general.
Most succes stories you read online or in newspapers are hyped up as they are mostly based on rat or mouse studies, whose metabolism is highly different from ours and we can apply treathment which you wouldnt want to undergo or wish upon any human being.
If we can upgrade selectivity for chemotherapy compounds and find a feasable, non-invasive way of screening for cancer before it has a chance to spread to other parts of the body, I'll be optimistic myself.
Also, keep it mind it will take a couple of years for a succesful therapy to go from laboratory to the clinic"... I have promises to keep, And miles to go before I sleep." -R. Frost

Personally I'd be a lot more worried about Heart Disease from smoking than lung cancer.
But on to the topic at hand--
I used to smoke about 2-3 yrs ago. I liked Camels b/c you could get them free at bars and they had a lot of flavors. Right about that time they came out with the Turkish Silvers if that gives a time frame. My favorite camel cig was the Turkish Jade. One day i got curious and broke open the filter. Guess what, it had a little menthol ball in it. I think this had been around, they're just now getting around to exploiting it. Also their raspberry stingers and the citrus ones had 'flavor' balls in the filters as well.
back off topic--
But I'd quit smoking before you're 25 if you know what's good for you. Right now you can probably get the greatest enjoyment from smoking with the least amount of health problems. But as you get a couple of years older, less places and people will allow you to smoke around them. Your doctor will be berating you nonstop to quit. If you have ANY family history of heart disease or hypertension, you'd quit asap. Last time I checked, those aren't 'curable' but treatable. You can have your daily cig today, but you'll be having your daily heart pill 20 years from now b/c of it..fffffffff_____

Yes, we can genetically engineer cells so they return to normal in a labsetting while working with isolated cells in medium. Targetting chemotherapy drugs specifically to tumour cells is being worked on, but the selectivity required is far from obtained so far.

if you are going to smoke tobacco you should atleast grow your own. Commercial tobacco is really fucked up.. google it if you are not already aware.
Saying "oh ima keep smoking because soon they will find a cure for cancer" is just retarded... or maybe masochistic?
I use to smoke alot.. now even watchign someone smoke makes me wanna vomit.. You dont really realise how dirty and "unnatural" it is until you kick it.sigpic
