Something interesting though is that the traditional allegiance between the U.S and Australia is waning in light of China's rise on the global stage..
An indication of this would be the exportation of the f-22 raptor to Australia, which was originally going to be allowed with the pro-U.S Howard government, but denied since the pro-China Rudd government took office..sigpic

Tagmor: with the rise of international threats and out right aggression from countries like Russia there has been a push to re-militarize. Australia and Canada are similar but also very different, but I for one believe that without a professional army we're useless. What's the political structure like in Australia? We have three main parties but it's always been traditionally one vs the other.it makes me sick when i think of it, all my heroes could not live with it so i hope you rest in peace cause with us you never did

technically it's a three-party system (Labour, Liberal and National) However the Libs and Nationals have been in coalition for a long time... So it is practically a two-party house.
There has also been a balance-of-power for quite awhile and has seen the major parties seek support from minor parties and independents..
It is also very unregulated and allows extreme left and right-wing parties to be heard.. although it doesnt matter with the controlled media and "fabricated patriotism".:fear:sigpic

I mainly agree with Epi, you should look at what they're coming from. And even then you are only measuring them by your own moral, your own perspective, and what makes you so divine?
Inside China there's been many great achievements that couldn't have happened in other countries, could give them credit for that as you would give credit to the achievements in your country.
It was almost painful to read some of you people judging China on pollution while you are a typical consumer of their industry.
So your industry is capable of using newer technology and therefor could pollute less, your country wouldn't agree on cutting down pollution. You are only using new technology to produce more, not to decrease pollution.
Are your companies then willing to share that technology so poor China doesn't have to use the "cheats" you used to get to the level you are now?You ate some priest porridge

Wow, I am currently watching a interview with Kishore Mahbubani about China vs the Western world. It's exactly about what's being discussed in this thread. And the double standard most of us Western people have towards China.

I don't know if anyone mentioned it yet but the opening ceremony firework display was done by a computer graphics team. If you remember it, there were supposedly giant firework footprints going from the imperial palace to the stadium. Well, a company spent a year producing it and ya, totally fake. Anyways, here's a link to CNN, 'cuz it looked so real tyhat I would have a hard time believing it was CGI too. The interesting thing is, NBC and its comentators knew it was fake and tried to sell it to us. Swapping in a pretty little chinese girl to sing the national anthem is one thing, making it look like they have super firework capabilities is another. Probably wouldn't be hard to air-brush out pollution, too.
Edit: Forgot the link here ya go: http://www.cnn.com/2008/TECH/08/12/fake.fireworks.ap/Last edited by Vatican Assassin; 09-02-2008, 01:01 PM.

It seems that Australia pulled a fast one too at Sydney:

Apparently, the Sydney Symphony Orchestra performance at the opening ceremony was prerecorded - by members of the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra.

I thought that was pretty obvious.

The fireworks were real, some of what was seen on tv was CGI, BUT, those fireworks were also performed during the actual ceremony.
Those footprints for instance, were actually done during the ceremony, but what you could see on tv was CGI.Maybe God was the first suicide bomber and the Big Bang was his moment of Glory.
